Humanized, Big and Charmy isn't all that bad.Zeta wrote:I'd be really fightened to see a humanized version of "Big" or "Charmy". I would guess that a human Big would look like Marvel Comic's "The Blob" - but with a fishing pole and in a purple jumpsuit.
And Charmy - well, there's no way you could convert his levels of explosive homosexuality into a drawing of a human.

There are various Sonic ginjinka pictures thoughout Japanese and Korean fansites and Charmy is usually portrayed as a hyper, little boy. Big is rarely drawn because...I guess he lacks a "pretty boy" aura and/or because he is fat compared to the rest of the characters. That doesn't make him any less loveable though.

Many human-Sonic pictures fail because the artist gets too wrapped up being cutesy and full of stereotype anime conventions, while also only adding a human nose and bangs to Sonic's ordinary head to make him human as opposed to actually, y'know, using any depth of imagination, making it end up looking like a cosplay convention where everyone's just trying that little bit too hard.
But what do I know, I don't even want Knuckles and Shadow to have sex.

To add to that, they also have a tendency to really forget the things about these characters that make them those characters. Certain aspects of the design that can be carried over from the transition to anthropomorphic animal to human, in addition to the fact that the resulting "human" loses a lot of the personality conveyed in the character's expression and body language. Far too often I see drawings of a human Sonic where he's drawn with "pretty" eyes which causes him to lose the energetic edge and attitude of the character he's supposed to be, resulting in, as you've said, a person who's simply cosplaying and tried too hard. But then again, I don't know if I'm one to criticize since I've done a human Sonic picture myself.j-man wrote:Many human-Sonic pictures fail because the artist gets too wrapped up being cutesy and full of stereotype anime conventions, while also only adding a human nose and bangs to Sonic's ordinary head to make him human as opposed to actually, y'know, using any depth of imagination, making it end up looking like a cosplay convention where everyone's just trying that little bit too hard.

Wily: Oooh, Roadrunner-chan! I will get you some way!Tsuyoshi-kun wrote:Yeah, but they can still draw better than most American children. In fact, the only fan art I really like is Japanese fan art, though I would like to see a Japanese person's stab at Bugs Bunny or Donald Duck...in American style. NOT ANIME.

The Japanese are known to love Disney--probably even more so than the Americans.

"Anime-style" is just a very bastardized version of American Disney cartoons in the first place.Yeah, but they can still draw better than most American children. Yes. Like Europeans, and Australians, and....Delphine wrote:You know, there are artists in places other than America and Japan. Oddly enough.
But most fanart I see is either from America or Japan. I don't look fan art too much, though I do occassionally see a pic from someone from England or the rest of Europe.
Fanart isn't a profession of mine (or a hobby of mine to look at), so I'm sorry if I keep my scope limited.

Kingdom Hearts is a good step in the direction, indeed. Why did I forget it...?Ngangbius wrote:Tsuyoshi-kun wrote:Yeah, but they can still draw better than most American children. And indeed the guy who started it all (it was the Astro Boy dude right?) had the creativity and talent to form his own style by borrowing from, but without flat-out copying his Disney inspirations. Most of the other animators and comic book illustrators in Japan seem to want nothing more than to stand in his shadow and contribute nothing of their own.Zeta wrote:"Anime-style" is just a very bastardized version of American Disney cartoons in the first place.Yeah, but they can still draw better than most American children.
