Blah, I'm still going to get RE4 on the Game Cube. I don't even own a PS2 because it doesn't interest me. I would get it for some RPGs, but lately, I just don't have the time to play through long, epic RPGs and that's most of the PS2's library.
*Hides from the PS2 fanboys*

I kind of doubt there are any serious PS2 fanboys around here. In fact, there are no single-minded console fanboys of any kind here... they'd probably be douched before long.
As far as the Gamecube goes: despite the fact that most of the games I want are on the PS2... I'm still stuck on getting the GC, to some extent. There are a few games already mentioned, particularly ED, which apparently every survival horror fan has to try at some point. There's also something to be said for playing RE4 with a faster, stronger system right 'now' as opposed to waiting a year for what will be an inferior version.
I don't care about Xbox.

Back on the topic of RE4 itself. It's way odd.
You're not killing zombies anymore. You're killing insane europeans who appear to be manufactured clones (they fizzle and vanish when they die). They have a special name that means "sheep" in some foreign language.
Then you have the giant mutants.
They're acting like the explanation behind these two occurances is a big secret, but anyone who's read the Time Machine and is familiar with Morlocks should be able to figure it out.
Insane europeans = Clones bred by Umbrella to feed:
Giants = Bioweapons created by Umbrella
There, done. I may be wrong - but what are the odds of that?
As for the other aspects - any game in which you have to protect a bitchy hostage from constantly getting herself killed is just WRONG. I mean, at least Yorda LIKED you and listed to you.
The chick in RE4 seems to constantly go out of her way to piss you off.

I played RE4 at a demo kiosk at EB yesterday.
It's amazing how much more intuitive the controls are now that the camera is constantly behind your character-- The Up is Forward, Left and Right Pivot thing actually works with this camera view, and Leon is pretty fast and agile, so unlike past Resident Evils, it actually feels like you're controlling a person rather than a tank.
Fighting those freaky European people is pretty fun, and finally lets me fulfill my dream of going out and shooting random white people. The analog stick on the demo unit was a little broken, so I aiming was a little rough, but I managed to pull off a few head shots. Leon has this kick-ass kick that, um, kicks ass, but for some reason, he can only use it after you've depleted most of the enemy's health... It's sort of a finishing move. Ammo was plentiful in the demo, so I didn't get to try melee combat with a knife, but I assume it'll be as intuitive as the rest of the game.
As for graphics... This is probably the most technically advanced Gamecube game in terms of visuals, with every little detail being rendered perfectly. Imagine the quality of the CG backgrounds from the RE remake and RE 0, except being done in real-time 3d, and well, looking much better for it. I simply don't see how the PS2 can handle this game, as, in my opinion at least, it trounces even Metal Gear Solid 3 in terms of detail. And when the angry villagers mob you, they fucking gang rape you-- They're all highly detailed (as is bishounen-y Leon), and theres often 4 or 5 of them on screen at one time.
Seeing how the only other game that comes out in January is Virtua Quest, I think I'll be getting RE4 on launch. It's quite the orgasmic experience.

Actually, Capcom has supposedly stated that Umbrella has gone down for good... that the source of all of thjis is something else entirely.Zeta wrote:They're acting like the explanation behind these two occurances is a big secret, but anyone who's read the Time Machine and is familiar with Morlocks should be able to figure it out.

And, comparing RE4 to the previous REs does make it look quite awesome, given all of the updating that it's received... but does no one remember the RE4 that was to take place in some sort of dark, spooky castle with shadowy figures wielding chains and whatever other weapons were around? Still had Leon, but he was wearing a furry coat, as opposed to... well... not.

Really? I had heard that Umbrella just wasn't making any NEW plans. And that there would still be signs of their disbanded operation in RE4. So this could be a discarded and forgotten experiment.Actually, Capcom has supposedly stated that Umbrella has gone down for good... that the source of all of thjis is something else entirely
Still, it would be cool to have a RE game that has an actual supernatural story instead of science/virus crap.

Yeah, the plotline goes along the lines that the US government finally shut down Umbrella for one reason or another. I'm sure many people were waiting for a more formal closure to the whole Umbrella saga, so to have it end in a few lines of text outside any of the entries is a bit disappointing.
That's what the shadow men in RE4 were supposed to be, if I'm not mistaken. They honestly look as if they're coming out of mirrors towards you, and they apparently had the baility to possess other things in the area? This was all in the original RE4 they had going, though... Mikami decided to start over from there and make the one we have right now.Still, it would be cool to have a RE game that has an actual supernatural story instead of science/virus crap.
