Welcome to Your Doom

Post by Green Gibbon! »

So I just read on Magicbox that Sega America cancelled the US release of the new Altered Beast. Granted, this means nothing to me because the game looks like a load of ass and the original was a load of ass 15 years ago in the first place. But I'm very curious to know what facilitated this decision. Did they provide a reason, and if not, some speculation, perhaps?

The US release? So it's still coming out in Japan?

And Europe, apparently.

I sincerely doubt quality control is a concern. Seems to me like it's the sort of thing that would hold up alright in sales, probably better than in Japan or Europe.

This is a baffling announcement to me.

Also even if it sold poorly, it probably would sell well enough to make some sort of profit considering the game is already completed anyway.

Yeah, seriously. This isn't exactly the type of game that takes hundreds of workers to translate... and the voices are already done in English, right?

Am I the only one here who thinks it looks like hog nuts?

I guess maybe they figured it would conflict with Spikeout, which seems to me an even weirder license to peel off the bottom of the barrel.

Well, you have to love the nostalgia, even if it's nostalgia of what was a terrible game even when it came out.

Who cares if it looks like hog nuts? The original Altered Beast looked like cancerous decaying hog nuts.

By "looks", I mean "looks like it's going to play".

Though the original Altered Beast did also play very similar to cancerous decaying hog nuts.

From what's been shown in trailers, there's very little in this game to even try to evoke nostalgia. It's a shame, really, because if it <i>had</i> centered upon centurion zombies pow-ering up on "spirit balls" collected from dead mini-cerberi in their quest to save Athena from <strike>Hades</strike> Neff, god of the underworld, I know <i>I</i> certainly would have bought it.

My friend used to call Altered Beast Beast Wars for some reason. True story.

Maybe the game really did retain the homoerotic undertones of the original version, and SoA was worried John Ashcroft would eat them, or something.

In short, I haven't a bloody clue, either.

*Fanboy Rage.*

How dare he confuse "Altered Beast" with a "Transformers" series! ARGH!

*/Fanboy.*

Sorry about that, it's just that I l0v0rz "Beast Wars"; it's hella cool.

I mean, what's not to love about alien robots traveling through time and space to beat the crap out of each other? And one of them has nice hooters.

Altered Beast was the first game I ever played, and even as a 3 year old, thumb sucking, booger eating toddler, I thought the two main characters were totally gay for each other.

Blackarachnia. http://tfu.info/2000/Maximal/Blackarach ... achnia.htm

I'm a Transformers fan (G1 only), but I have never thought of them that way. The first time I found Optimus/Megatron slash, a little part of me died.
