RE4
Not sure if you guys have heard this yet... Resident Evil 4 is going to be ported to PS2 due to heavy demand. However, it's coming out in Q4 2005... a year after its release on the GC. The Gamecube gets it earlier.
Let's not forget that the game has been designed foremost on the GC, and appears to be using all of GC's technology to pump out some impressive looking graphics and whatnot.
Even with all of this in mind, the fanboys are still in an uproar. Amusing as hell.

It's because the GCN lost another 3rd-party exclusive(especially since this one was from the Capcom 5) which supposedly devalues the worth of the console--discouraging people from purchasing it.
Obviously, the PS2 version will look like ass and will have slow-down, but I'm guessing Capcom will put up extras like they did with the Viewtiful Joe port to make up for it.

Oh yes, the former Capcom 5...
Dead Phoenix - Cancelled
Resident Evil 4 - Will be ported to PS2
Viewtiful Joe - Ported to PS2
Killer 7 - Will be ported to PS2
PN03 - Still exclusive
I suppose I can still understand the uproar... but most fanboys seem to fail to realize that this isn't anything new for Capcom. If anything, it was predestined to occur. Code Veronica was supposed to be exclusive to the DC, if I remember correctly...

They say that it's supposed to play to the strengths of the PS2, but we saw how well that worked with Sonic Heroes.Obviously, the PS2 version will look like ass and will have slow-down

Yeah, he actually did. heh!Green Gibbon! wrote:Did he promise such a thing?
Honestly, with the Cube as cheap as it is I don't see why anyone has an excuse not to own one. The lineup isn't huge but there is enough good stuff to justify the hundred dollar pricetag, especially if you also enjoy playing gameboy games on your TV. If I was actually a RE fan, I couldn't see myself waiting an entire year to play a shittier looking version and save a hundred bucks.

Well, this doesn't come as a complete surprise. Pretty much the only games exclusive to Gamecube are the ones made by Nintendo. But those games are enough to justify having a Gamecube.
I bought my Gamecube a little while after launch, didn't touch it for a year, and then used it heavily around the time Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, and PSO came out. Right now, my Cube, PS2 and Xbox probably see around equal usage.
Nintendo is having one shitty month-- First Sony kicks them in the balls about the PSP's price, and then Capcom drops a brick on the remains of Nintendo's wang. Oh well... Maybe the PS2 RE4 will have Dante.

For me, the MUST OWN reasons to grab a Gamecube are Metroid Prime (and probably the sequel), F-Zero GX and Smash Brothers Melee. I'd put Animal Crossing in there too, even though it's not my thing, because it sure seems to be everyone elses. Viewtiful Joe WAS a reason, though I guess it isn't anymore. RE4 might be, if it is actually any good.
Then there's the bevy of not-totally-brilliant-but-probably-worth-having games like Sunshine, Wind Waker, Twin Snakes, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Tales of Symphonia...
And then finally, there's the significant chunk of third party multiplatform releases that are prettier than the PS2 versions, and often way cheaper because no one actually bought the GC versions... You know, BG&E, Rayman 3, SSX III, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Burnout 2, Extreme G III, Spidey II, on and on. If you don't already own any of these titles for the other consoles, you can really get some bang for your buck out of the GC, provided you don't have a problem with the controller.

As I recall it had nothing to do with the Gamecube and more to do with the industry generally. Mikami was, supposedly, frustrated with the lack of interesting and original titles lately and so the "Capcom 5" (with the exception of RE4) were all intended to be these big original games that would stand out and get people excited and all that. I assumed they went with Nintendo at the time because Nintendo has been stressing a similar philosophy that without creative and unique games the industry is going to collapse under the weight of unneccesary technology, or something like that.So what was he promising to do? Save the GameCube?
They might have been GC exclusive then but it's better for everyone (except Nintendo) that these games--if they are so great in the first place--get ported over to consoles that people actually own, not because Capcom is selling out (even if they are) but to "save the industry." This is keeping with their original goal.

And if I owned an Xbox, so would I. But seriously. When the Xbox launched, I was interested in three titles... Halo, JSRF and PDO. Now, two years later, I am interested in... Halo, JSRF and PDO. It's hard to imagine a console that had fewer worthwhile exlusives then the GC, but somehow they managed.Segaholic2 wrote:I don't know about everyone else, but I usually went with the Xbox versions for almost all those third-party multi-platform releases. Mainly because the graphics and extras were usually slightly better.
If I didn't own a PC, though, I'd probably feel differently.
