A Glorious Day

Post by chriscaffee »

So you wake up one morning in an alternate universe where you are the center of it all. You can do whatever you want (within human limitations). Everyone on the planet will listen to your every whim and will follow the "heart" of what you want, not the letter. (So there is no way for anything to backfire.) You have 24 hours before you return to the real world. What do you do?

Make Yu Suzuki forget about all that Shenmue Online crap and start making Shenmue III.

And, brainwash everyone to buy 5 copies of it when it comes out.

One question: do the effects of this alternate reality carry over into the real world once you return, or is this basically just 24 hours to run around and do whatever you want, then return to reality without any repercussions? Because my reactions would be very different depending on which scenario this is.

I meant to say that the effects don't carry over, but why not just say either or or both since it's hypothetical anyway.

It is??? Agh crap.

I'd tell everyone to build one of those huge human corpse heaps, like in that PS2 ad with the Shirley Temple song.

That'd be cool just to see what the guys on the bottom look like afterwards.

Fine, there are no consequences. Effects don't carry over. Way to stifle the creativity Popcorn.

I'd shoot everyone on my hate-list, they're all gonna come back alive, but at least I wont have to live with the guilt.

Kill people...lots and lots of people...with a whiffle bat and a banana bazooka, so it'll be both homocidal AND amusing.

Oh, well if the effects don't carry over, I'll just kill everybody I come across.

Sleep with all the people I want to sleep with, kill all the people I hate, force Sonic Team to create NiGHTs 2. Play it till the day ends.

Brag to all the rest of you about it. The NiGHTs 2 part.

In a day of NiGHTS 2 development you'd probably get a written proposal for teamwork based gameplay and nothing more.

In that case, I'd do what Squirrelknight would. If the effects did carry over, I'd do what Del originally suggested.

I'd shanghai a bunch of developers and programmers and musicians from other game companies. Shigeru Miyamoto, Treasure, the developers of KD, legions and legions of programmers. 100,000 team members all forced into around the clock labour. They'd have to finish the game in 12 or I'd kill them and all their families.

Twice.

What if you died during that 24 hr period? Would you stay dead or would you come back to life after the 24 hrs were up?

I would think that NO effects would carry over. Including death. How would you even die if everyone had to do what you said? Unless you killed yourself or experienced a bizzarre accident.

What if you called for the creation of a time machine? You could come back to meet yourself at the exact time that you decided you wanted a time machine, and that version of yourself, thinking you an evil clone, would kill you with their... super powers. Of being a God. Or somesuch.

So then you would die. But you'd still be alive. So there'd be some kind of time loop, but it'd be reversed at the end of the day. Except the end of the day doesn't come, because time is in an eternal loop. Shit.

Get a 2 by 4. Walk into a crowded mall. Get out a boombox with Black Sabbath's Paranoid on it.
Allow justice to ensue.
