Is anyone looking forward to Kingdom Hearts II?

Scrooge McDuck was created before even the 50's. He created in 1947 by Carl Barks for Disney's comics. Duck Tales is loosely based on Carl Barks' original Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics. I use the term loosely since there where a few changes between Barks' comics and Ducktales such as Donald Duck given a minor role in the cartoon when he was the main character in the comics.
Heard Disney changed this for Duck Tales since they feared that Donald would overshadow Scrooge and the triplets in the series.

Yeah, Donald joined the navy in Duck Tales.
. . . make of that what you may.
I've read a lot of Carl Bank's comics, though, and aside from the exclusion of Donald (they basically replaced his character's role in the stories with Launchpad McQuack), Duck Tails follows them pretty faithfully.
Until they started to add bizarre extra characters like Webby and Gizmoduck and the like. And that damn caveman.

It's really sad that Disney made such cool shows like Gargoyles and Duck Tales yet is also responsible for such crappy shows like The Proud Family and Dave the goddamned Barbarian.
But yeah, Scrooge in KH would rock so hard. I'd freaking KILL for a Treasure Planet segment, but chances are that'll never happen...
Oh yeah, and what Ngangbius said about Stitch. He'd make an awesome summon creature if nothing else.
I actually enjoyed the battle system in KH. Not sure why, as you could probably keep mashing the X button and win, I found it to be a lot of fun though(especially when I learned to not be so stingy with my MP and pulled off a lot more fancy moves). It had some problems(namely not being able to pull off smooth combos from one enemy to the next) but it looks as if that's being addressed in KHII.
I just hope that the menu is easier to use in battle. Perhaps if the controls are switched around a bit so that the R1/R2 buttons are used to navigate the menu(leaving the right control stick open for better camera control), L1/L2 to lock-on and switch targets, and just use the D-pad for quick spell casting buttons(assign one spell to each direction).
Yeah, the gummi ship segments indeed sucked ass. Fun to build though. If they can allow some more freedom with construction of the ship and greatly improve the gameplay(and graphics. Ugh, there was no excuse for that), I think it could be pretty cool.
But what am I doing posting about this game that isn't coming out for another year? I should be out trying to get a copy of Katamari Damacy.

I think the other big reason Donald was excluded from Duck Tales was his voice. In the Carl Barks comics, Donald always spoke perfect English, rather than the mixed-up squaking that he displayed in the cartoons. He still had a temper, but there was just way more depth and intelligence to him... he was practically a different character. If Disney felt obligated to remain faithful to the animated Donald, then he wouldn't really have worked as a regular on Duck Tales. The animated Donald is really only suited to slapstick, physical comedy, not the (comparatively) more literate, non-violent, adventure-based Barks stuff. That'd be my guess, anyhow.

I didn't even know there was a Ducktales movie.
My best memories od Ducktales come from the Capcom NES game. Man, that along with the NES Rescue Rangers game kicked ass.
Anyone remember the show Tailspin (or something like that)? It was the characters from the Jungle Book, except... They were pilots and stuff. That setting was alot more interesting than the normal Jungle Book thing. I know that Kingdom Hearts' worlds are only based off of the movies, but Tailspin's vaguely 1920-ish world would be an interesting change of pace.
I didn't think much of CoM at first, but this thread inspired me to read a bunch of previews, and damn, it seems pretty interesting now. It's also starting to look like playing through it will be a prerequisite to KH2... CoM and the Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap are starting to look like the last GBA games that'll be any good.

I think the Ducktales movie was direct to video. Anywho, the Ducktale characters finds a horde of treasures, only to loose it, but they end up with a magic lamp. Evil guys want it, blah, blah, blah, save the world, etc. Genie becomes what he wanted to be: a real boy...with really hairy eyebrows, and everything is cool.
I loved that movie.
And I remember Talespin. That was such an awesome cartoon.

Or they wanted a chance to market the infinitely cuter/more marketable triplets and make great big wads of cash selling plush dolls to young innocents such as myself at the time.I think the other big reason Donald was excluded from Duck Tales was his voice. EDIT: Not to say that I don't harbor a deep love of the wacky genie hijinks of the movie.

Ducktales: The Movie (I hate that sub on anything) did indeed go theaterical. I recall all the hype surrounding the imminent release of the film.
And give another heartfelt nod to Talespin. In fact, the entire entity that was the Disney Afternoon was quality weekday afternoon fare (wasn't too keen on the Gummi Bears, though) up until whatever came out after Darkwing Duck (Bonkers, wasn't it? Yeesh...). Gargoyles salvaged the block for another year or two, then it all started going downhill.

No. Goof Troop premired a season after Tail Spin and before Darkwing Duck.Green Gibbon! wrote:Didn't Goof Troop happen after Darkwing Duck and before Bonkers? I really liked the movie.
And Psx, no love for the Aladdin series? That came after Darkwing Duck and before Bonkers.
...a part of me wants to see a Max cameo in future installments of Kingdom Hearts.

I never really didn't get into Talespin. But I never watched The Jungle Book either, so maybe that's why it didn't appeal to me that much.
Ducktales was cool, and Chip 'n Dale were alright. I remember watching Darkwing Duck back in the day, but I really don't remember much about it or why I kept watching it, although I was browsing through my tape collection and found a Darkwing Duck Christmas episode that was pretty bad. I really didn't like Gummi Bears or Bonkers...
Gargoyles was awesome. The stories, the characters, Demona, Xanatos, the magic, the animation, it was all awesome. What was really cool was that every episode had a message behind them, and the message wasn't blatantly obvious. Gargoyles was an awesome show. It dealt with prejudice, gun control, illiteracy, and all these other topics, and it presented them in a very cool way.
At least, until the whole Island of Avalon crap. Introducing more gargoyles, the return of Princess Catherine, the Magus, and the other knight man person, all of whom were involved with the Gargoyles massacre 1000 years ago, was the last thing the show needed. Angela sucks, and so was that whole time travelling fiasco with that one wizard dude. And I hated the terribly formulaic World Tour. And then keep on introducing more Gargoyles. And the Children of Oberon. I mean, the Children of Oberon weren't so bad at first, like Puck and the Weird Sisters and all, but once the show crapped out like 50 Children of Oberon (one for each episode), they lose all their mystery factor which brought their coolness down to almost 0%.
Anyway, for those who don't know, Gargoyles was Disney's answer to the success of Batman: The Animated Series. They share very similar settings, such as a dark atmosphere and grittier stories.
Anyway, shows like the Mighty Ducks and Quackpack were what brought the quality of the Disney Afternoon down. Yugh.

Man, I ran across our old recorded-off-disney-channel version of the Ducktales movie just last week. I've been so tempted to watch that. That and Aladdin, since I keep seeing commercials for the upcoming DVD release.
I remember the evil guy could like, transform himself in to stuff. I remember he turned himself in to a bear and ripped appart Scrooge's Hotel room, looking for the lamp.
That and that one 4-part-miniseries they did about the Gold Fever remain my fondest memories of Ducktales.

Toonzone gave it fairly okay reviews, if that means anything to you at all. Not like "omg best movie ever" kind of stuff, but they didn't say it was terrible.Green Gibbon! wrote:Isn't there a new direct-to-DVD Three Musketeers movie starring Mickey, Donald, and Goofy? Is that any good?

I always loved Chip & Dale, Tale Spin, DuckTales, Bonkers, Aladdin, Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin TV series. They were always watchable.
Bonkers was pretty good from what I remember, trying to cash in on Roger Rabbit, but ended up being pretty funny with some odd cartoon characters. I didn't like the Bonker shorts though, the Police one was good.
I remember liking Marsupalami, the spotted whatchamacallit with the long tale and an ape for a friend. I saw an episode about 6 months ago which had him not talk and set up with some Black Marsupalami, The hell?
Things probably started to go down when Quack Pack began, but I really liked the concept of having the 3 Nephews as Teenagers and basically recreating them and Daisy.
I never really liked Timon & Pumbaa that much, or Jungle Cubs.

Ah...Disney Afternoon. Good times, good times. Watching Toon Disney made me realize recently how much better Disney's cartoons were over others at the time. Chip and Dale, Ducktales, Goof Troop, Gummi Bears, New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, and even Talespin were all enjoyable shows. I don't think the Disney Afternoon started to slip until they introduced Bonkers in 1993. God, I hated that show. It was like Disney was trying to imitate Warner Brothers, and it sucked.
Then each year after that they kept adding more crap: Gargoyles in 1994 (am I the only one who HATES this show?!), Timon and Pummba in 1995, Quack Pack and the Mighty Ducks in 1996, and then they disappeared. And except for Recess, (first season of) Kim Possible, House of Mouse, and argably Lilo and Stitch: The Series, they haven't made anything good since. 101 Dalmations, Lloyd in Space, Teamo Supremo, Pepper Ann, Disney's Doug, The Weekenders...garbage parodies of Nick/Cartoon Network shows. And the recent Brandy and Mr. Whiskers is god-awful as well. Someone really has to fire Eisner, or at least make him realize how awful Disney's animated shows are now.
And to be slightly on-topic, I DID look forward to Kingdom Hearts 2....back in 2003. Now Square expects me to wait September 2005, holding me off in the meantime to what it seems like an awful game made so Nintendo fanboys can have their share of Kingdom Hearts "goodness". I'm fucking sick of Square's shit. Despite working for Nintendo again, they've given nothing but shit to us Gamecube/Gamboy Advance owners. Instead, they waste all their time and effort on a video game system that can barely handle games that go 60 fps or even load up at a rate of faster than 10 seconds. A system with awful, out-dated technology, but one that people keep making games for anywway, from a company who should've never stayed in the video game business for more than 5 months anyway. That's right...I'm talking about the PlayStation 2 (no, I do NOT think Sony contributed to the mainsteaming of video games..I think that's a bunch of shit). It's no lie when I say that I play DVDs on my PlayStation 2 more than any games on the system, because the system itself is crap. Every now and again there's a game that sparks my interest, but they're usually from companies I hate anyway, such as Namco, who's giving Nintendo owners a whopping one GOOD game in the past decade that isn't a port.
Square missed their chance to cash in on Kingdom Hearts, in my opinion. They keep delaying, and delaying, and delaying a game that looks and plays almost exactly like the original game, with better grpahics and a couple of more cameos from the director's own games. Will they even BOTHER to improve the god-awful camera, the tedious platform bits, the bad loading times, the piss-poor level design (ooh, ANOTHER empty town that barely resembles the movie it's based off of), the crap frame rate (does Square know the meaning of the words "60 frames per second"?), the inability to skip cinemas, or at least make the summons USEFUL?! Or, I dunno, give the main characters PERSONALITY (Sora isn't a character: he's a plot device)?! Because well, aside from graphics, Utada Hikaru, and great voice acting, I wasn't a uber-big fan of the original Kingdom Hearts. After I beat on both Normal and Hard mode, I never picked up the damn thing again. I don't even know why I played it so much in the first place. Had to be for the hype...had to.
Square has made a whopping two good RPGs since they left the SNES, IMHO, and Kingdom Hearts wasn't one of them. Call me when Final Fantasy XII comes, Square (provided you don't delay that game to 2006 or something). Who knows, maybe I'll even play it.

Y'know, I almost forgot about Darkwing Duck. Didn't that have the guy with the big chin from DuckTales (a-woo-ooh)?
A Goofy Movie was pretty awesome in an early-90's pop music kind of way (Powerline = teh win), and it had Pauly Shore in it, which is always a bonus. "Time for a little...smoke-aaaage, awoooooo!" Good times.
Most of the Disney cartoons from, like, 1995 and over started to suck a little. I mean, I was never into the Aladdin show ('cause the movie's so damn perfect), Bonkers just kinda annoyed me, and I fucking hated Timon And Pumbaa (not the characters, just the show...extreme lack of Nathan Lane ;__;). I never really got a decent exposure to the others because I only got satellite TV about 4 years ago, and they stopped showing reruns to show stuff like Dave the shitty fucking asshole Barbarian, and the Buzz Lightyear cartoon (which makes me laugh occasionally, probably due to Patrick Warburton).
