I've never really liked the look of hi-res sprites that are just traced from low-res originals, somehow it always looks a bit like you're just using one of those nasty filters on an emulator (Cave Story Wii's updated graphics gave me the same impression). Not the same as sprites drawn in high resolution from the start.

I guess it's nice that they've made the animations smoother, but now his full-speed running animation looks too slow.

Sonic 2 was always my least favourite of the originals anyway.

I have to agree with that. It just looks like an inflated mess of solid colours and wonky faces. All of the detail gets lost, giving it that cheap flash-game look.

It doesn't bother me that it looks like a flash game (because it really doesn't), what bugs me about it is the fact that it's Sonic 2, which will take forever to finish due to its enormous level array, along the fact this will demand a high-end Windows machine for a game I've played ten times over and is not even that great to boot.

It doesn't look half bad to my eye, although I'd have to play it before I make any actual opinion.
Sonic 4 could take a few pointers in making environments that are HD but not utterly characterless.

They chose Sonic 2 because it is the most popular game, not because of what a few people on an obscure site like the most.

I also think you fellows do not realise how much time these people have been putting into this (and will certainly continue to!). I am sure it will get finished.

Really? We're complaining about Sonic 2 now? Not that the game is perfect, but you know, it's better than Sonic 4 and it's about to become available in "HD" for free. The lack of a cease and desist order is a testament to SEGA's incompetence.

I'm afraid that whenever I see one of these fan games - especially alongside the phrase "In Association with Sonic Retro" - I start to think "... made by programmers who aren't good enough to do this for a living."

Do you know how long it has apparently taken these people to get their shit together long enough to finish one zone, if that?

I'll believe a release when I see it.

I had assumed that they would have had a working version of the full game before putting together an alpha release, complete with a website and a trailer. How naive.

One could instead assume that even if the engine was done now there'd be at least 5 years of work to follow on the rest of the stages if they wanted to keep up with the standards they've introduced so far. Why are people acting like a final version of this is just about to get released?

Judging by the picture on the handheld that follows it, I'd assume it was supposed to be Rouge.

I was under the impression it was an original character.

Rouges' figure is obviously too infidel-ish for the Muslin public. I now hate everything about Pakistan.

Making her completely naked is better?

Yes, that is what he implied. Rouge should be naked always.
