I thought they already used that to deflect criticism in past titles.

So we should expect the Sonic equivalent of the Hot Coffee affair, right?Jim Sterling from Destructoid wrote:Sonic Colors is for kids, Sonic 4 is for grown-ups

They are much better 'cause they are Rock. You know, the stuff with electric guitars, bass guitars, percussion and some guy SHOUTING OUT THE LYRICS REAL LOUD. Rebellious stuff, like Sonic himself (or at least the image they've been trying to impose on him all this time since 1998).Radrappy wrote:The theme is no worse than the themes of any post genesis sonic game. I don't understand how fans of "live and learn," "Escape from the city", and "His World" could accuse someone of having bad taste for liking this new song. They're equally terrible.
On the other hand, this is weak, gay synth shit. Totally "into da system", therefore totally not Sonic. Hell, even the Galaxies' orchestral soundtrack sounds much, much more appropriate.
Also, sorry for being so incredibly late on this.
Sorry, but I'm clearly not giving them a free pass. I'm essentially demanding a pretty... well, demanding quality from them; that they manage to successfully merge speed and exploration in a three-dimensional, expansive action game, something that's never been achieved, not even the Galaxy games did. As for what is it about them that is so much less offensive than the last bunch of games, Neo really hit the nail already; it's down to the games' engines.Radrappy wrote:I can't help but feel like you're giving a free pass to the adventure titles just because of nostalgia. They don't seem that much more qualified to be called "true sonic games" than what we've seen of this one so far. What is it about them that is so much less offensive than these mechanics?Isuka wrote:
all I really want now, is a Sonic the Hedgehog game. Even a 3D one styled after the Adventures, especially if it manages to successfully merge speed and exploration would be fine. I just don't care about what amounts to a nicer, enhanced, Werehog-free Unleashed sequel, especially since I didn't care about Unleashed, or even the Rush games, to begin with. Not that they are necessarily bad Sonic games... they aren't Sonic games, and that's the point.
There's much more of the original trilogy's mechanics and even pacing left in the Adventures than there is on these.Neo wrote:Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Pocket Adventure, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Advance 3, and if you forgive their slidy control then also Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog are not classic games but all had an okay if not pretty good engine. Coincidentally enough, I like these games (with the exception of Advance 3 and Heroes, which have too many other design flaws for me to ignore).

It's not even that it's synth or upbeat or lacking a rebellious edge. It's that Color's theme is not as good of a song as the other three mentioned. I'd put it with the "Seven Rings in Hand" (which also had rock and shouting) pile of bad Sonic vocal themes. I'd welcome an electronic Sonic vocal theme if it wasn't so offensive to my ears.Isuka wrote:They are much better 'cause they are Rock. you'd have to be pretty anal to not think this is awesome. Finally, Sonic being a hedgehog comes into play.

I have to admit that's a pretty cool idea, as well as amusing - a neon pink hedgehog climbing up walls.

So it turns him into a faster version of Knuckles? Okay.

Sounds neat to me, I would think he could also stick to ceilings, and being balled up probably means he can't actually stop, or there'd be some kind of extra-tactile, physical quality to moving him around with it, like rolling a marble.
Or maybe he's a faster version of Knuckles.

I got more of a Spider Ball vibe from it. Which was awkward in every Metroid it was featured in, which is pretty much par for the course for Sonic. So, Meh.

I cannot wait to accidentally stick to the wrong surfaces, fall off them into holes, and see what happens when I boost on the ceiling.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
I love the concept for this game. Sure, there's a good chance they're going to totally screw up the execution... but at the very least, it's nice to see a new title that's built around legitimately cool-sounding ideas, and not something instantly off-putting like "Sonic turns into a Werewolf", or "Sonic meets King Arthur".
Then again, maybe I just love the concept because it's so similar to an idea I've always had for a Sonic game. I mean, I had pictured the powers as being more elementally-themed (fire, water, earth, air, etc), like an extension of the Sonic 3 shields, but still... there was a digging power, there was a flying power, there was a climbing power...
Basically what I'm saying is, I'm really smart and I like things that remind me of how smart I am.

Looks like it works exactly like Tails' flight in the genesis games:

I love how every time someone has to slide under a platform they always bang into it. I and everyone I know always does this. You literally have to know what the designers were thinking about to even play the games, which makes no sense.

It's forgivable as long as it doesn't kill you. Which I might add, much of the level design in SA 2 did.Kogen wrote:I love how every time someone has to slide under a platform they always bang into it. I and everyone I know always does this. So instead of Sonic's friends, Sonic temporarily gains his friends' powers. What a twist.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
I'm more puzzled by why the developers of Unleashed decided to have Sonic slide through openings in the first place, and why it was decided to keep the same maneuver in this game. It's not really interesting, and always forces me to a dead stop in levels that I presume are supposed to be centered around speed and continuous flow.Kogen wrote:I love how every time someone has to slide under a platform they always bang into it. I also think it looks pretty cool!
(Which is good, because I'm sure we'll have to play through it seven hundred times with alternate time and collection objectives.)

Oh, so you like it, eh? How about some of this as a reminder of what developer you are dealing with?

Is it? I thought Colours was being helmed by exes from the Storybook series team. (Which, of course, were perfect games in every regard!)

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
Well the director who thought that a Power Rangers battle against a monster in the centre of the earth was acceptable is the one who does not like Jun's song, so that means something in some context.
