It was first announced by Sega of Italy (since when does Sega of Europe get to be the first to announce anything..?), and the Sonic Team logo is nowhere in the teaser, so I kind of rushed to assume it's being developed by an Italian based studio or something. *shrug*

Somebody ought to move the Sonic Colours topic into the news section, though.

Internally Sonic Team does not know how to play a Genesis as we did as toddlers.

Uh oh!

No, it was entirely expected. What would be unexpected is if they fix anything else.

But our source is pessimistic that Sonic’s physics will be made just right, citing an internal lack of classic Sonic comprehension.
I don't know about you guys, but I am pumped for this game!

Rarely do Sonic games have such a lenient development schedule where they can actually produce enough stages to be able to cut some from the final game. To my recollection, last time this happened was with Sonic 2.

wowwwww ok have fun with that

So I played Sonic CD yesterday. The pinball physics are bullshit, and absolutely nothing like any of the *gag* "Classics", but Best Game Ever right? It's got a super neat soundtrack!

Gosh I hope someday there'll be a Sonic 4Beta project so we can finally play the fabled missing minecart stage! What an absolute treasure.

Sonic CD's pinball segments ARE shitty. And so is some of the level design, like Tidal Tempest. And Wacky Workbench. And Stardust Speedway.

Sonic CD's redeeming qualities are its presentation -- the graphics are the best of all the "classic" games, so is the soundtrack, and it's just the whole surreal vibe that not even Sonic 1 had. Ohshima knew what he was doing.

Go get any rom hack or beta which features Hidden Palace in Sonic 2. Play it. Get back to me and tell me if you had any fun at all.

People obsessed over the level mostly because of its graphics, which were never seen before, but it was cut for a reason. It wasn't good enough to be worth finishing.

Is it possible that after many attempts there actually trying to weed out anything that gets a bad reception? Hopefully they're thinking 'right we've gone this far, we should go all the way'. I think they know that if this 'classic remake' doesn't work, there's no where left to go. That's how I feel about all of these god awful movie remakes. They will have hopefully played all the classic games whilst developing this one..very hopefully. Personally I would really like outlandish graphics, equally outlandish music and even a decent original storyline. (I figure decent gameplay goes without saying..)

Any chance they'll take further what happened in Sonic & Tails 2 and have a whole variety of different special stages?

To anyone celebrating the possibility that they axed one bad level: when the PartnerNET leaks occured, it was evident that the game, more or less, had been in a "finished" state for some time. Weeks, possibly a month or so. It was originally scheduled to come out in June.

The leaks began occuring at the end of March.

You connect the dots.

It's good that they're trying to fix things that are broken, but it's pretty embarrassing that they had to wait for negative reaction from leaked footage to realise that they were about to release some bullshit. Sounds more like scrambling than fine tuning.

The point I was trying to make about Sonic CD is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, some of the parts being quite shit. The overall presentation gives it its charm, for sure. As an art fag, it's definitely one of my favourites.

The point I was trying to make about Sonic 4 Beta was entirely satirical, which seems to have been misunderstood slightly.

I'm trying to connect those dots you mentioned, but I think my pen has run out (which, on reflection, looks like I'm admitting to having erectile dysfunction).

I suppose their original plan was to release whatever for Episode 1, gauge reactions, and plan accordingly for Episode 2. The leaked footage is just speeding up the whole process for the better. I'd imagine, in regards to content, they'd go with the majority vote, i.e. whatever makes them the most money. You can't please everyone, but there are a lot of people that are easy to please. Call it low expectations or whatever. Personally, I have no expectations. I just play with stuff and see what happens.

Which got me into trouble in a few clubs, I'll tell you that. Heyooooo

FUCK YEAH I LOVE YOU J-MAN!

Everyone can come up with his/her own development conspiracy theory or whatever, in my book this is darn good news through and through. Not enough to convince me, but very good news nonetheless.

Looking forward to seeing Casino Street 2's "score challenge" and the evidently potential-wasting homing attack getting axed, too. The latter one I hope they'll be either done with or use it in a much more relevant way in the next episodes (such as being the only way to access and navigate certain dangerous and highly rewarding branching paths, something I'd wager they haven't done with this one by the look of things except maybe in the last few stages).

Oh, I just read the sauce, they apparently did away with the score bullshit stuff, too! :D

Only one more to go...

I will wait before praising the game until they understand that rolling Sonic is faster than running Sonic. The spindash is still slower, which makes no sense in either gameplay or reality.
