@Crowbar

Probably because a good number of those games/hacks are dedications to Sonic CD itself, without regard for the bad bits.

@cjmcray

Google's cache shows a default server page ("It Works!"), so I think they're just protecting it until the reveal.

Apparently it is being revealed at `midnight`. Although I cannot figure out timezones, so that might be next Saturday.

Too bad the blog team at SEGA is too stupid to just set up a timer.

Bad news, guys. Turns out "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" is actually a sequel to the "Sonic the Hedgehog" from 2006. (They're retroactively counting Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Labyrinth as 2 and 3, respectively.)

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

Coming to XBLA, PSN, and Wii, contrary to previous reports. Releases this summer, which is sooner than I was expecting.

Story picks up after S&K. Homing attack is in. :roll:

Xbox and PS3 versions will supposedly run at 1080p. Motion control is in. :roll:x100

It was the right people, at the right time, getting together and finally making this game we've all wanted to see.
I wonder who "the right people" are?

Wow, he looks... exactly like the modern Sonic. I could have sworn there was the promise of a redesign.

Well, I'm happy that I don't have to drop £250 on a new console just to play it. It looks pretty, too.

The two seconds of game footage looks Sonic-ie, but… episodic? The original games weren't that long, so I'm not really sure how to take that. It could be good, I guess: You could liken Sonic 3 to an episode 1 and Sonic and Knuckles to an episode 2. It could also be terrible, though, if each episode is either ludicrously short or artificially lengthened. :s Also, motion controls on PS3 and Wii? Uh…? Doesn't that go against the whole "returning to roots" thing? Is the game designed with this in mind (in which case how will it translate to the '360), or is it being added in because they can (in which case why)? It's clear they want it to be like the Genesis games, as the title clearly indicates, but look how well Sonic the Hedgehog '06 turned out. :P Not to sound overly down on it -- it has potential to be sure, but a lot of Sonic games that have come out over the years have had potential and still been less that stellar.

I don't think it's quite gelling, visually, but they're coming at it from a good direction. You can see a clearer shot of the game on the Gamespot front page. I think the foreground looks great, but the bushes in the background look a bit thrown in and out of place. And yeah, Sonic's running animation is a little off.

Considering they're only showing three flippin' seconds of the game, I think it's safe to assume the thing is still a work in progress.

I grabbed it up.

Image

I don't like it, it looks like several unrelated textures were cut out of magazines and then collaged together. It looked better small and blurry in the video, I guess maybe I'll like it better in standard def? Also, fan nitpick, the super-smooth grass surface (I always liked how "bumpy" the grass was in previous games), the running cycle looks kind of awkward, etc etc.
