Sonic died after 2001, what we are seeing is his corpse, just look at that box "note the family entertainment sticker on it"

Sonic now a days is that same as taking a shit on a paper bag and writing "Sonic the Hedgehog" on it.

Dasher, please stay on-topic, thanks. I mean, honestly, if you're going to keep spewing the same tired (if true) "Sonic is dead" refrain, at least tie it into the topic at hand.

As for Banjo, meh.

Ugh. I agree with Opa Opa.

Why Banjo of all characters? I'd rather have Rayman or Mega Man. Heck, i'd even take Crash Bandicoot over Banjo.

And that Family Entertainment thing is bothersome. I hope it's just a sticker that can be removed and not part of the of the actual coverart.

Because Microsoft doesn't own any of those. I think your other options are Master Chief or the guy from SkiFree.

As has-beens whose series have taken a turn for the worse, they'd fit right in to this game.

New trailer featuring Banjo Kazooie and Xbox avatars

Just seems the usual "exclusive content so buy this version" stuff.

It is kind of odd how heavily they are trumpeting Banjo's inclusion, considering what a massive bomb his 360 title was. I mean, the Banjo and Avatar cars are all just additional bonus content on top of the full game, so it's not like they are doing any harm, but... it sort of reminds me of when the Xbox Soul Calibur 2 got Spawn as an extra character. Is anyone really going to care?

I thought people felt like that towards Heihachi more... I know some people who really liked Spawn and Link, but no one seemed to care about Heihachi being in there. Not even the Tekken fans I know.

I don't think Sega's marketing department has been of any actual use since about 1994. Motherfuckers killed the Saturn.

Didn't it say somewhere that the SC2 with Link version sold the most? I could be wrong, but that's what all the stories say...

Well, between that, a rushed launch, a difficult architecture as far as development goes, lack of documentation on HOW to develop for it, a few less-than-stellar ports in its early years, a CEO who insisted RPGs would never catch on just before FF7 came and made RPGs catch on and refused to let the company translate any, internal drama leading to a distinct lack of a unique Sonic game for the platform, half of the library never leaving Japan, and the sheer prevalence of both the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64, yeah, they kind of did, didn't they?

Not to slight the Saturn; it houses one of my larger game libraries and I wouldn't want it any other way. I should really replay Panzer Dragoon Saga sometime.

Oh, and you know those Genesis compilations Sega keeps shoving down our throats? A Saturn compilation would be mighty nice. Hell, even a Dreamcast compilation, that console's still relatively popular. Or maybe a combination thereof (since the Saturn has such an undeserved negative air about it that it probably wouldn't move copies on its own)?

As much as I'd like to play Nights* to see what the big deal is, I doubt Backbone has the chops to emulate it well, and they prob'ly know it. As you've said, it has some fucked up infrastructure.

*I hate buying used and the PS2 is region locked.

EDIT: Come to think of it, how is the emulation on the PS2 port?

I figure they'd do what Sega's always done: license out one of the better fanmade emulators and port it to everything under the sun. Really, that's all their Genesis emulator is, anyway, as I recall; I forget which emulator specifically, though. Kega?

A while ago, they did just that with GiriGiri. Nowadays SSF's king of the hill as far as that sort of thing goes, so they could just use that. And even still, Gametap has a Saturn emulator, so they must have SOMETHING available internally. Heck, Gametap has a Dreamcast emulator, too, so they've got one of THOSE lying around as well (although it runs Chu Chu Rocket slowly for some reason, so I dunno how much I trust it).

lol, they wish. All I know is the SMC emulator is ripped off of some variation of Gens, which sounds plausible given the audio. How much they've improved it since then, dunno.

As I read it from around the time of the PS2/PSP collection, the Genesis emulation technique Backbone employs is to use no sound core whatsoever - all music is streamed from massive WAV recordings (or some unwieldy format) of the originals that were run for X amount of time, say 10 minutes long for a Sonic level's BGM. This would account for why the XBLA ports of Sonic 1-S&K are such goddamn huge downloads. It sounds outrageously inefficient toward making a quality port/collection, but I imagine it must not cost a whole lot to do, and that's why SoA keeps going to them: cheap, cheap, cheap. Can you say "scared to death of risk"? (Whether or not they still did that for 360/PS3 collection, I haven't heard.)

I'd guess NiGHTS PS2 is a port and not emulation, considering it has an option for updated graphics or the original Saturn polygons.

And Pepper commented it was slightly fucked up somewhere around the open forum.

Sega has already ported every Dreamcast game that they think could make cash, I even found out Space channel five had two games for the playstacion 2. Sega doesnt want to port Saturn games, and since they "destroyed" Nights, why they would?

In before the PlayStation 3 version gets to use Home avatars. (Ahahahahahaha)

Actually, I could imagine Sackboys taking the 360 avatars' and Wii Miis' place.

Oh, and Ulala's in, according to the ESRB description.
One of the female racers wears a short skirt with a laser gun that clings to her thigh; she taunts opponents by gyrating her hips and blowing a kiss.

Remember how we were all musing back on page 8 about how awesome a Crazy Taxi character would be in this game? Especially BD Joe? Sega delivers on both counts.

Oh, and some random pink-haired news reporter from space is also in the game. But who cares, BD Joe is in!
