Sonic style guides

Post by Crazy Penguin »

For merchandising purposes and what-not. The classic stuff is particularly interesting, given that Amy and Metal Sonic weren't included in Sonic Jam.

Ever since the height comparison in Sonic Jam I thought it odd just how much shorter Eggman was in the actual games. In Sonic 1 the top of Sonic's head reached just below Eggman's mouth. It was more or less the same in Sonic 2, 3&K and CD. Then they're practically the same height in Sonic the Fighters!

Still, much more accurate than the huge and completely off-model version that was the end boss in Sonic Spinball (or at least until he inexplicably shrunk for the ending).

I've kind of got to wonder how much use these see.

I mean, has anybody other than Yuji Uekawa done illustrations for the series for the last...10 years?

Do they make completely new models for each new game?

I never knew that Amy wore a piece of tied cloth in her head-quills. I always though it was one of those plastic hair liner things.

Little late to this, but what's a discussion about proper character styling without a little bit of perspective!

I can't say that's worse than pupils casting shadows on the whites of Sonic's eyes.

To be fair, the cornea is supposed to bulge out from the sclrea.

But not hover above it. That was a lazy mistake.

It's kinda interesting how, according to that hight comparison picture, Amy was a lot taller than Tails even though they were canonically of the same age back then.

Girls develop sooner than boys, different species, etc.

Hedgehogs are bigger than foxes?

I am aware, of course, of the redundancy of this given the context.
