You losers need to get over your drooling fascination with the big-eyed, O-mouthed, off-colored, overly cute and altogether hideous Sonic from that animated intro, which I'll admit was well handled in terms of showing Sonic in motion and I was awed by it too when I was 13, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the game.

Am I the only one who didn't like Sonic's design in the Sonic CD cut-scenes? I remember Green Gibbon!'s comments on it before:

Oh no you didn't! Are you guys taking apart one of the best Sonic games of all time? that's it! I'm out of this madhouse topic! I can understand crap games like Sonic Heroes or Shadow but Sonic CD? Oshima directed that project himself and that's what Sonic was all about. For your information thats the style Oshima wanted Sonic to be in, he loved the cartoony cute style and coloring Sonic a tad lighter, so if you don't like it tell it to Oshimas face.
So lalala im not listening, I love Sonic CD 100% and yes I love the intro and outro ALOT.
If you don't like it then good for you I don't care, i suggest you waste your time picking apart games like Shadow or Sonic 2006 or unleashed.

I too prefer the more westernized look that was featured in the actual games. It was the whole point after all. The animated CD/OVA design was the exception, not the rule.

Jesus lord, it's not that awful. I think it kinda slick and charming, though, (and i'm late with this) they really need to not go back to the 90's Sonic design in Needlemouse, or that just suggests a million different ugly ways that the whole point of the game is to jam a pacifer in the internet fanbase and accomplish little else.

I think Sonic should be changed into a young man with blue spikey hair and the music should be punk-jazz.

You kidding? Sonic has always been about rock music (just not garage rock music).Kogen wrote:I think Sonic should be changed into a young man with blue spikey hair and the music should be punk-jazz.
If anything else, Sonic should adopt some house for a healthy dose of porny keep-going-don't-stop optimism.

I agree, I loved that sound, rock is over used.
1991-1998 grooving sonic was better than punk rock sonic 1999-2009.

Ska all the way. Or whatever Sonic Unleashed's daytime music counted as.

Re: All-new 2D Sonic rolling out in 2010
I would love to see Sonic music going again into the more surreal direction of Sonic CD, yet not merely stopping there. The funky tunes of the Present stages is what conveys best the overall feeling Sonic should have, but I would also love to see more of the bizarre and disturbing sound of the Bad Futures. Actually, I would not mind if closer to the end of the game the music would assume Darius-like Zuntata vibes, as in for example FAKE or Kimera II. (<3) Which, of course, would be fittingly adorned by distorted and nearly bizarre metallic worlds.
On the other hand, while the poppy sound of for example Stardust Speedway or Quartz Quadrant would still be most welcome, I also could picture as a lesser but still acceptable alternative positive yet driving tracks in the vein of OutRun music. Like Life was a Bore, Splash Wave or Keep Your Heart.

Re: All-new 2D Sonic rolling out in 2010
I suppose the reason I like Unleased's daytime music isn't because it reflects individual stages well (and at that, it does an okay job), but because it reflects Sonic's character: speedy, at times a little cheesy, but ultimately incredibly joyous and optimistic.
That's also why the themes to Eggmanland stand out so well. They are the exact opposite of what was previously heard, and it makes it all the more believeable that you've entered Eggman's turf. I also appreciate how maniac the daytime tune is. It reflects Eggman personality extremely well (as much as I liked Final Egg's tunes, they shouldn't been so laidback in retrospect).

Re: All-new 2D Sonic rolling out in 2010
I didn't quite like Unleashed's soundtrack too much. Admittedly some of it was pretty catchy, but the music for daytime stages could get repetitive or predictable, and only about one or two tracks really stood out to me. If anything, I liked most of the world hub music, and Chun-nan Night is pretty boss too.
Music-wise, CD, 3D Blast and Adventure have most my favorite tracks, but I still love a lot of Sonic 1 and a few select songs from Sonic 2 and 3. I too, adore the cheesy and more chipper tunes.
Ska is pro. Sonic could use better instrumentation in general rather then overly dominating lead guitars and synth/techno distortions.
