On a more serious note (sort of), did you know that in Saudi Arabia "Pokemon" is banned? The reason, and I'm not making this up, is that the government thinks that "Pikachu" is a subliminal message which really means "Be a Jew." Honest.
I've heard that it's because Pokemon can evolve. And the theory of evolution is illegal in the middle-east.

That can be solved easily - just repaint tons of blankets over them in every scene so that no male can gaze upon their sinful flesh that will surely drive them insane and rape them - and it will all be the woman's fault.

Sorry - my feminism is showing.

I thought it was 'cause a kid jumped out of his bedroom window (true story). An obvious connection to Pokémon there.

I heard that two kids in Texas shot themselves when they got rid of Pikachu in their game.

Is this thread about Pokemon now?

I've never owned a Pokemon game before. I'm thinking about buying Pokemon FireRed.

Does this make me a bad person?

Pokémon isn't that bad. It's the anime and card game that sucks. It's okay to play it; heck, even Pokémon Pinball isn't bad.

The games have grown stale. When they make a remake of the original, it's officially dead.

Even so, I'll still buy FireRed.

I'm really ashamed to say this, but 5-6 years ago, when I was young, stupid, and in Jr. High, I was really into Pokemon. God, I'm such a fucking douche bag.

That said, I have no interest in getting the remakes, though that Gamecube Colliseum game did seem a little interesting... But then again, its nothing I'd pay full price for, and as of yet, I haven't played it.

Oh, and to get back to the original topic-- I rented Burnout 3, it's quite nice. Again, outside of Gran Turismo, I don't play many racing games, but this one held my attention for a good while.

Oh, and to get insanely off topic, I beat Shenmue 2! I bought it last Sunday, so I beat it less than a week, or a few hours of playing... BWAHAHAHAHA. Anyway, it's a nice game, and you could pick it up on the cheap. And yes, the latter parts of the game are as great as everyone says.

If that's all it takes for a series to be dead then countless series such as Mario(see Super Mario All-Stars) and Dragon Quest/Warrior(see SNES remakes) should have been dead ages ago. ;)

And I still like the Pokemon games, but I feel that it is much too soon for a remake(maybe they should have waited 'til 2006 on the franchise 10th anniversary). I'm not interested in the remakes as of now as there are too many dang games in general that are coming out this year that I want.

I mean there is:

~~Pikmin 2(already out)
~~Fable(already out)
~~Gradius 5
~~Katamari Damacy
~~Sly Cooper 2
~~Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
~~SMT: Digital Devil Saga
~~Prince of Persia 2(still need to play the first one)

And a whole bunch of other games I either missed or in the case of titles such as Half-Life 2 and Halo 2 don't personally care about.

When I was a youngin' I used to like Pokemon too. I still have an album full of Pokemon cards, which I have never bothered to sell.

The pokemon games are awesome, and still are, but the fad seriously needs to die.

Now that's an incredibly stupid fad. At least in Pokemon, the monsters were "real" and with some suspension of disbelief one could picture an exciting adventure involving them.

In Yu-Gi-Oh, even in the show - the monsters are fakey, false, holograms that just act as pieces in a giant board or card game. Which means that instead of seeing super-powered creatures duke it out, you're watching two morons play a slightly spiced-up game of war for 20 minutes. Who the fuck wants to watch two fictional people play card games.

Oh wait, it's for the safety of the world?

And you're playing a card game for it?

Fuck that, you jackass. Walk over and pop that fucker in the face. Kick him in the nuts. Shoot the bastard. Do something, there's nothing stopping you, really.

But I'd guess you'd rather leave it up to the odds of "Gin Rummy" with monsters on the cards.

Fucktards.

I heard Beyblade is worse.

Well, the concept is pretty stupid anyway "OMG OVER-DRAMATICS OVER BATTLING TOPS!!!11!"

And what I read from YGO in SJ which is when they don't emphazise on the card game, it's a pretty fun even though it's a 'by-the-numbers' manga. Not something I would spend money on but some "popcorn manga" you don't have to really dig deep to occasionally enjoy. I mean, it did not outright bore me like Sandland did. And some of the "Penalty Games" that happens to the villians are truly messed up.

The card game plays best when there are actual stakes.

Like being shackled to a wall and having your legs chooped off so you bleed to death of you lose.

Or where your consciousness is forced out of your body.

Or even for your friends, where if you don't even play your aged grandfather dies from shock, induced by the same holograms that display because of the card game - only shitloads more of them.

Or where you yourself are a piece on a field controlled by a sadistec game master.

Or...

A good machinegun would solve all of those problems - aside from having your grandpa die (but he's old anyways) and having your conciousness forced from your body (and some people pay good money to experience that).

Or hell - you could suggest that you play Ro-Sham-Bo instead of a stupid card game. Just make sure you always get to go first. Or have a female friend of yours play for you.

The card game I don't find so bad. What I despise about the hacked version is the Shadow Realm.

Just say "if you lose you die." That's got more impact than "your soul will be trapped in the shadow realm forever," and it's shorter too.

In truth, I played the Pokemon games, but I never found them fun. I got so bored with it. Now, I don't think Pokemon sucks. Hell, occasioanlly, I still watch the anime (although the Johto seris was just plai boring), but it got too boring for me. But I almost beat Stadium...but Damn it, Giovvani REFUSE TO DIE!!!

I agree that the card battlings are repetitve as we watch that one battle of Yugi vs. whoever for 3 parts or something and it doesn't help that they bluff at each other for 10 minutes before making their moves, but the cards are based on actual monsters from the past which nearly wreaked havoc. Not to mention the God Cards seem to be the only ones that seem to truly kill people (it was in one epsiode which I forgot).
Oh wait, it's for the safety of the world?

And you're playing a card game for it?
If you must known, the earlier YuGiOh wasn't cards at all. Hell, the author responible for YuGiOh wasn't planning to make it a card game. It was because of his fans who thought the card game was fun that he left it that way.
Fuck that, you jackass. Walk over and pop that fucker in the face. Kick him in the nuts. Shoot the bastard. Do something, there's nothing stopping you, really.
well...you can always ask Jouninchi or Honda, those two would be the muscles.
But I'd guess you'd rather leave it up to the odds of "Gin Rummy" with monsters on the cards.

The actual card game, well to me, is fun to play with.

There were some stakes in there. One scene (japanese version), Yugi's legs were tied in shackles and he had to duel his way out or otherwise the blades will come near and obviously, chop off his legs.

Or where your consciousness is forced out of your body.
Actual, this happens a lot. In Battle City Arc mostly when Bakura's soul is sent from his body, as well as Mai, good Malik, and Rishin (can't spell his name, he's Odion in American)
Or even for your friends, where if you don't even play your aged grandfather dies from shock, induced by the same holograms that display because of the card game - only shitloads more of them.

There are plenty times Yugi plays for his friends. In the Noa Arc, one scene had Honda's soul go inside a robot monkey and his friends had to help get his body back which was inhabitted by one of the Big Five (who were in Kaiba's big corporation). And even Anzu helped out Yugi when he lost to Seto in one epsiode by playing against Mai who badmouthed Yugi, even though she sucks at the game.
Or where you yourself are a piece on a field controlled by a sadistec game master.
Pegasus wasn't sadiastic enough? That dude cries over his dead woman.

Yeah, but being trapped in the Shadow realm does add a bit more, I think - 'cause it implies that not only are you essentially dead (your soul and body are seperate) but you problably ain't going to heaven or nirvana or being reincarnated if you die, either.

I still can't believe dubbers are relying on saying "I'll send you to another world!" instead of just saying "I'm going to destroy/kill/pinch you!" It's so cheesy.

The dub is cheesy and I don't know why 4Kids can't say "die" either. If Disney can say it, why can't they? I mean, it's not like kids are unfamiliar to death. I do like the idea of the Shadow Realm. I also enjuoy the early comics where Yugi literally makes his victims go insane or dead.
