There was a magical villain when sonic was still Sonic, back in the 90s...(No Imagination) wrote:What Dasher's saying is depressing, because it's true.
Sonic Team messed up their whole charlist by introducing aliens and magical creatures as villains

I really don't think Witchcart even COMPARES to Chaos, the Biolizard, Devil Doom, Solaris, Dark Gaia et al.

I think it was Yuji Ueakawa the one behind Shadow, but really... Shadow's just the (first) official take on the whole "original character" concept, ever since Sonic could transform into Super Sonic some fans would come up with edgier and darker versions of the character and probably make them fight one another (one of the comics even made Super Sonic into a separate entity, didn't it?).(No Imagination) wrote:On the topic of Metal's Sonic Heroes final boss redesign - whenever I see it, I still get the vibes that was actually supposed to be Shadow, and Metal Sonic was tossed in as his substitute because the guy who designed Shadow (Ilzuka? ...refresh my memory...) so wanted him to be playable and alive forever, and wouldn't let him be a killable villain in SA2. I mean...those stripes. Is that supposed to be Metal Sonic or Metal Shadow?
So yeah, those are just stripes, in the same way they could've been tribal tattoos or whatever.
While most of the situations and entire plots the character has been thrown into are just pathetic and lamentable, I don't quite see enough of a change in his trademark characteristics and promoted personality so as to go as far as saying that now he "sucks" or anything of the sort. Sonic products suck and they don't even have a clear set direction or target, but not the character itself.(No Imagination) wrote:Not that it matters much, because Sonic's character of today sucks and is apparently designed for very young and gullible children.
And I remember being fascinated with Knuckles' character and his rivalry with Sonic, especially since they took this concept farther than Metal Sonic and their race in Stardust Speedway zone 3, Knuckles actually hindered Sonic's progress every step of the way and ended up setting the record straight with a one-on-one match. Now that really developed the character, being overthrown by (at first) a one-shot recolor is just lame.

It's freaky how much the lower picture looks like Perfect Chaos from SA (...at least in sock puppet form).(No Imagination) wrote: Chaos is a chaos.

It's not just the games, what it bothers me is how his uh, "message" (or, motto) has transformed into a sort of escapism. From "...do it right away, it's the only way to live a life without regrets" to "gotta go faster, faster, run, never look back".While most of the situations and entire plots the character has been thrown into are just pathetic and lamentable, I don't quite see enough of a change in his trademark characteristics and promoted personality so as to go as far as saying that now he "sucks" or anything of the sort. Sonic products suck and they don't even have a clear set direction or target, but not the character itself.
...I mean...can you not tell any difference between:
plot device: "omg sonic chaos has become Perfect. Do you know what this means?"
Sonic: "Yea...if I'm not mistaken...this monster is a real menace!"
and
plot device: "omg sonic the gates of hell will open and darkness will spill across the land. Do you know what this means?"
Sonic: "Yea...it'll be like halloween all year long!"
...the first one makes a point, while the second one downright runs from the conclusion, even making a joke, yeah-sure-whatever-style. It's the kind of thing a child would say. :/
And for the last time, Chaos is not a magical villain - it's a special amoeba with multiple nuclei that just happens to have chaos emeralds attached to some of them. It's an actual animal, just characterized like all of Sonic's furry friends.

No, it's a Chao that was mutated into a god via radiation from the Chaos Emeralds. For real.
