Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
This is why I don't post in the news forum that much.
That's the bullshittiest bullshit I've read for the entire month, and there are still 10 days left of it.Tetsu Katano wrote:“Sonic and the Black Knight is aimed at a younger, more casual audience. We’ve changed a lot of things, essentially. It’s thinking as children; approaching things from their point of view, thinking what they want to see.”
The first Sonic game wasn't marred with boring, tedious and nerve-wracking menus. It wasn't marred with stupid fling-the-controller-around minigames. It wasn't marred with tons of useless moves. It wasn't marred with entirely pointless and redundant side characters. It wasn't marred with insultingly nonsensical gimmicks. It wasn't submerged nose-deep in a pool of puke and feces.
It was a straightforward, quality child game. This is a retard game.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Too often people think of children and retards as the same thing.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
But kids want more bang out of their hard-earned allowance. That 50 bucks had better be worth 120 hours of content no matter how tedious and redundant and tedious the filler is.
Incidentally I added Sonic to the Tvtropes articles on RPG elements along the lines of "Why? Seriously, why?" only to have it changed to "it enhances the experience of the games" by some little snot. I don't visit that site anymore.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
You don't visit that site anymore just because it happens to house one idiotic Sonic fan?

There isn't just one, and it isn't the only reason. That site is crawling with lesser life-forms. I mean why else would 'Troper Tales' exist? Hahahaha you're a 'Deadpan Snarker.' Who isn't? Not to mention the whole thing gets hijacked, like, three times a year by hackers.
This takes the cake.
This takes the cake.
Also, I have a crush on King Dedede. There's just something sexy about a giant inflatable penguin.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I only go there to read Tropes, not to find out about the people who write the pages. Imagine doing that on Wikipedia for cripes sake....
EDIT: For the record, what was that about hackers? I haven't been there for a while, but I must never have been around when the site got hacked.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Except using search is a fucking gamble there. Half the time I don't know what a page relevant to what I search is. Is The Danza a trope or a user? You don't know until you click it. You think I go out of my way to find pages about transexual weaboo furries?
The fact of the matter is that inane shit bleeds into actual pages. Wikipedia deletes Original Research and Informal Language for a reason.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
See, I don't use the search function unless I want to instantly go back to a Trope I've already seen. Most of the time I go on Archive Binges through the main index.
Really though, they may have bizarre quirks about them, but the people at TV Tropes clearly aren't stupid like so many other places around the web. I find it to be one of the more tolerable places to flock though.
EDIT: You still didn't answer my question about the hackers, either.

The database was kaboshed once or twice, nothing terribly interesting (especially since backups went up quite promptly).
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I was there for The Great Crash but that's all I know. Tajiri up there claims they get hijacked "three times a year". Somebody's wrong.

What the fuck am I supposed to say? The site went back to the way it was, and they don't exactly have a forum anymore. Do a Google search. All I know is on a handful of occasions I was greeted with a skull and a paragraph that read (I'm paraphasing here) "I've taken over your [the owner] site, send me an e-mail to discuss my terms." The last time coincided with a nasty rogue program that infected my PC, by the way.

Can you even hold a website for ransom? Not to appeal to the lowest common denominator, but LOL.

That's like holding an essay for ransom.j-man wrote:Can you even hold a website for ransom? Not to appeal to the lowest common denominator, but LOL.
An essay that you have copies of.
And that the internet has copies of, too.
And that, more than likely, your friends have copies of.

I'm not saying it was logical, I'm saying that's what happened.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I saw this slide from the Nintendo GDC conference and figured it might apply SOMEWHERE around here...
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Yeah, they should have had an image of Sonic running down that spiral.
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
It wouldn't have made any sense. Sonic still sells well despite the preceding problems!
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Oshima created a monster but now its on the WRONG hands!!
Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
He sells less than the franchise did before it constantly dipped below the "average" mark. If the franchise was still that much of a big seller then the games would be successful on all systems not flopping on HD consoles. SatBK doesn't seem to be tearing up the charts(at least in the U.K.) that much either.P.P.A. wrote:It wouldn't have made any sense. Sonic still sells well despite the preceding problems!

And yet Mario & Sonic Buttfuck at the Olympics is the best-selling game in the Sonic franchise.

That's the best anology for the situation of the Sonic franchise I've ever seen.
