What other series could use a "Mega Collection"?

Wow, did anyone even know about that? I put tons of work into it, then lost interest and stopped entirely. It's been untouched since about 2003. I did, however, write the Panzer Dragoon Saga page on Wikipedia a few weeks ago, so that's sort of like a spiritual successor, right?

Thanks! I love Clockwork Knight. I imported the games not too long ago (I broke my US copy of the first CK and always meant to play the second one) and fell in love with them again, so yes, a CK avatar is a must.

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone, I really appreciate it.

... it's snowing in Brazil. And sure, welcome.
Since we're back to the topic... someone should compilate all the versions/sequels of Sparkster. And include them in a new game.

That's like, what, three games? RKA, Sparkster SNES and Sparkster MD? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong of course, but if I'm right then it seems a bit pointless. There'd be nothing Mega about a three-game Collection.

In fact, I've noticed a few people clamouring for compilations of game series that only ever had two or three, maybe four, entries in the first place. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to go out and actually 'collect' them yourself?

Oh, and Clockwork Knight ftw tbh. Doesn't deserve a Mega Collection though.

I do agree in cases where it's only two or three games, generally, but it often depends on what regions or systems each game is released for. Like my suggestion of Aero Fighters has only four games, but it goes something like this (not too sure about SWL):

AF: released for Super NES and Neo Geo
AF2: released only for Neo Geo
AF3: released only for Neo Geo
Sonic Wings Special/Limited: released for Sega Saturn in Japanese, and Playstation in Japanese and PAL English, wtf

So I don't have a Neo Geo, I don't have a PAL PS2 and don't want to buy one for the sake of one game, so for all intents and purposes a Mega Collection would be very helpful.

And yeah, CK only had two games and I think there's a 1+2 pack out anyway.

They don't have to be a Mega Collection, the thread was just called that because that is what the Sonic compilations are called.

I think you're missing the point, mate.

'Tis a fair point, and one I should've probably addressed before getting so overzealous. Many of the series mentioned in the thread would be pretty easy to find, however. Things like a compilation for one certain company (I think someone mentioned a Treasure collection) would be pretty fresh, but I still think hoofing a load of old games onto a disc and selling it at full price is a bit strong, especially with the recent turnover of systems.

I'd really like to see a mega collection for Crash Bandicoot, with enhanced remakes of the first four games, just like Super Mario All Stars.

I love my Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box and believe it is one of the finest examples of a Mega Collection-esque collection set (Sonic Jam is pretty high up there too, though). Not only does it have the regular Japanese versions of Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and Alien Soldier, you can also access the overseas versions of all three, plus the GH prototype and the different ports of Dynamite Headdy, speedruns, concept art etc. So even if you had a Genesis with all of those games, it'd be worth the effort to pick it up.

Although an even better idea is to make a sequel, with Treasure's Saturn works on it. Imagine, Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun and Silhouette Mirage on one disc, and you wouldn't have to pay upwards of two hundred dollars because RS is so rare. I think THAT is one of the big problems with going around collecting old games: occasionally, the games worth collecting are too expensive and would be easier to buy on one disc, for $30 imported.

Not that I advocate doing this for every series though. I remember debating whether I should buy the Sonic Gems Collection, until I realized that I would only be buying it for Sonic CD, pretty much.
No shit? Is there a PAL version of that?
Nope, Ritz is right, but here's a page with information about it if you're interested. I would probably buy it more for the extras/calendar anyway.

The unreleased Bomberman-esque game mentioned there has piqued my interest. Is there any info about that (Or the hidden movies) cited anywhere on the interweb?

You know, I could have sworn that I saw a page with a screenshot or two from the Clockwork Knight prototype movie, which had Tongara fighting some enemy with an umbrella instead of a key. I can't seem to turn the page up at the moment, though. Wish I could help you on the Bomberman-like CK game, too, but the mention of it on that page I linked was the first I'd heard of it.

You mean the one I posted? I only heard of it from a big-time geek friend of mine who spends 25 hours a day on the computer, I could get the video off him as all I can find otherwise is pictures.

Be warned: The video is very Shadow-the-Hedgehog-like, Bomberman does not know why he was created and sets to get his revenge on his creators.

Edit: Here's one.
It's all I can find for now.

No, I mean, the game mentioned on the page Madamluna linked to. Also, I already saw the umbrella video, I was just sort of hoping that the author of that page meant that the collection had some entirely new videos hidden around.

Registered just to answer this question. (For the record, I've been lurking here since before this even went PHPBB. Just haven't bothered to register.)

I've seen the video of what they're talking about; you can nab it here (albeit as part of a larger show, though it covers a fair amount of stuff - the Japanese Famicom Star Wars, Rocket Knight Adventures, Jet Set Radio, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Wonder Boy, Snatcher, et al.). You aren't missing much, apparently. It's just Pepper running around a board, kicking eggs up out of the floor and back at other enemies. I'd have been pretty disappointed, I think, since after Clockwork Knight 2, that's a pretty big change. Like SMB2, but even more off-tangent.

Teeny-tiny thumbnails (sorry, it's all they're offering right now and the video hasn't finished downloading for me yet):

Shadow Hog, that is fantastic information and I love you very much for bringing it to light ♥

But yeah, that minigame looks like a real bust, which is a shame. I loved CK2, and the title "Clockwork Knight 3" is so misleading! The look of the game reminds me a bit of Quinty/Mendel Palace, though, but I think that's just wishful stretching on my part.

Also, I made an animation of Tongara shimmying today. If anyone wants to take it and crop it into an icon, go right ahead. I made this smaller version for the purpose, but it's very badly compressed and I'm sure someone else can do better.

Uh, to try and re-rail the thread: I would also not mind a collection of Hudson's Adventure Island series, as long as it contained Adventure Island IV and Super Adventure Island, the former of which is awesome and the latter of which I've never played but I hear is good.

Goodness, it's Shadow Hog. Hello, Shadow Hog. You should stay here. This is a very handsome place, much more attractive than the SRB2 forums. We won't forget to feed you or anything.

Also, thanks for the link, I'll watch the video first thing tommorow morning. Also, I echo your sentiments, Luna; looks like it'd make a fine minigame, more than worthy of the Super Duper Bonus Minigames Corner, but that seems to be the extent of it's depth.

Also, so long as we're sharing Clockwork Knight memorabilia, I've begun to rip some of the tunes from the game (Via emulator, but most of them don't sound half bad). I have no place to upload them, but if there are a select few anyone wants, I'd be more than happy to email them or something.

Galbadia Hotel has the Pepperouchau's Adventure ~Fantasy Soundtrack~ up for download, but yes, I would LOVE to hear what you've got ripped, since the album is missing most of the music from the games. I've got copies of Walking Through a Dream, No Time Blues and Never Say Die, but one of them is incomplete and I would really prefer having better versions.

http://yousendit.com/ is a good choice for uploading the MP3s (that or Megaupload would be best, from what I've seen), by the way.

I've no intention of leaving, but then, I've also no intention of popping up in conversations which I have nothing really to say. I mean, I'd rather not be douchebagged, even if I'd have to be a giant asshole to get there (or just flatout insane - FinalCosmosTheUltra comes to mind, or Pat L Hedgehog at the MoFo, but I dunno how many people would understand the reference to that guy, but I'm willing to explain if needed). Lurking'd always worked good for me.

But anyway, I'm assuming you're using Cassinni instead of SSF... not that it matters, since neither have particularly grand sound emulation. Still, I wouldn't mind it... I'll PM you the address, I'd rather not share it otherwise. Considering that I haven't moved all my MP3s from my old computer to my new one, pretty much all I have to listen to is the two sample tunes that came with XP and this "Cosby Vocoder" thing. Pretty sparse, I tells ya.

Anyway, since this is all off-topic, I second/third/whatever the motion for a Castlevania collection, and that one with the first three NES games and the two NES Contra games for the PC doesn't count. That LucasArts idea sounds good too. Heck, a DS port'd be awesome, if they can fit it on the screen; that's practically made for point-and-click adventures, but there haven't been terribly many, barring a homebrew ScummVM port.

Well, that's odd, those were the first three tunes I bothered to record. Where did you find them, OCRemix? Also, are there any specific tunes you want, or do you want all of them? I haven't finished recording them all, so that might take some time.

Also, Shadow Hog, I've been using SSF to record them, though from what I've heard, it emulates the music in the CK nigh perfectly. Only issue I've encountered thus far is that a high note faulters towards the end of Walking Through a Dream. Noticable, but easily overlooked as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, the OCRemix forums! That's such a weird coincidence. Small world~

I'm actually listening to No Time Blues at the moment and it's coming through really well, I've got no problem with the quality. And now that I think about it, I don't think any of these are actually incomplete at all, but the end just sounds a bit abrupt. So I was wrong, I'm sorry.

Hmm...I can't think of any particular stage songs off the top of my head, so whatever you want to rip (everything, or only certain tracks you think are best) is fine with me.

It'd be a worthy endeavour; unfortunately, he just left the MoFo (good riddance), so I can't really drag him over here.

Anyway, speaking of collections, <a href="http://planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?a ... 0">this</a> does not strike me as a good way of doing things.

So now, you can own <i>Sonic 1</i> on:
  • Genesis
  • Saturn
  • Dreamcast
  • Gamecube
  • PlayStation 2
  • Xbox
  • PC (unofficial emulation notwithstanding; I'm thinkin' SMC+ here)
  • Wii
  • Xbox 360
  • Certain cell phones
  • Game Boy Advance
It's not many times I can say that "overkill" is an understatement. At least this version's somewhere around <i>Sonic Jam</i>'s quality, what with the Spin Dash and save feature and all. Still, unless it becomes the entirity of <i>Sonic Jam</i> on the go (sans Sonic World), this is really inexcusable.
