The second machine produced in Eggman's E-100 series, a line of highly accurate shooting robots powered by bioenergy from small animals. Gamma was designed technologically inferior to his older "brother" Beta, but quickly emerged as the favorite despite Eggman's expectations. After successfully defeating Beta in combat, Gamma earned a post of honor aboard the Egg Carrier where he quietly observed how poorly his less adept "brothers" were treated by their creator. Despite his apprehension, Gamma remained loyal to his master until he encountered Amy Rose in the Carrier's prison. After the fiery hedgehoglet refused to hand over her Emerald-bearing bird companion, the moved Gamma discreetly opened her cell and left her to escape. After losing in a fight with Sonic, Gamma found himself spared by Amy's intervention and quickly escaped the exploding Egg Carrier. While descending to terra firma, the rogue robot successfully rewrote his own master data and vowed to "liberate" his E-series companions. After destroying E's 103-105, Gamma returned to the Carrier wreckage to face off against the heavily upgraded E-101 Beta. The two robots ended up destroying each other, and the bird trapped in Gamma's core escaped and returned to its family.
