Princess and reigning monarch of Soleanna. Young and beautiful, Elise is extremely popular with the residents. Her mother died of unspecified causes when she was very young, and her father, the Duke, was killed in a lab accident when she was 7. As a result of the accident, the sun god Solaris was split into two separate entities: Iblis, an undying fire beast representing Solaris' power, and Mephiles, a formless shadow being representing Solaris' consciousness. Before the Duke succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the explosion, he managed to seal Iblis away in his daughter's body. He left her with very strict instructions never to cry, as this breach in emotion would break the seal and free the fire demon.

Elise managed to uphold her father's dying wish for 10 years - then she met Sonic. Dr. Eggman, seeking to unlock the "flames of disaster" sealed within the Princess' body, kidnapped her at the annual Soleanna light festival. She was promptly rescued by Sonic and ended up as a sort of hot potato between both sides - captured, rescued, captured again, rescued again, and so forth. During the adventure she grew quite attached to Sonic, inspired by his freewheeling spirit. When Mephiles ambushed and "killed" the unprepared hero during a moment of repose, Elise was unable to contain her emotion and inadvertently unleashed the fire demon Iblis.

After using Chaos Emerald power to perform a rite resurrecting the fallen Sonic, Elise travelled back in time and simply blew out the candle containing Solaris, effectively erasing the entire tragedy from history. As such, her original encounter with Sonic never took place and the two remain, to their knowledge, unacquainted.
