Destroy all Advertisers

Post by Zeta »

Yeah, well - it's always good to have a spare. I'm typing this on my brand, spankin' new laptop. That's good news.

The bad news is that the same day I get my laptop back from the computer techy place, my PC is hit by malicious spyware for the first time - EVER. I'm very pissed. I've been downloading crap off file-sharing programs for the past 10 years and managed to avoid contracting anything nasty - EVER. But today, it came flying out of the fucking blue and overloaded my PC with tons of shitty spyware and advertising programs.

Since, hey - I'm taking a computer trouble-shooting class right now, I figure that I can solve the problem myself.

I run ad-aware and spybot, and norton - but those only slow down the multiplication of the spyware. Suddenly, I get an idea. A pretty good one, actually.

Since the spyware all infected my computer in the past 24 hours - I figure I can just delete all the files created in the last day, makes sense right? I mean, I haven't installed any system files in months - so if I delete all of the files created today, I'll get the spyware through the "shoot everything and let God sort it out" strategy.

Well, it worked - too well. Apparently, there WAS some important file created only today - I know that makes no fucking sense, but that's what the computer is telling me. Luckily, I can still boot it up in safe mode - so I can at least organize and compress all of the important files (read: porn, fanfiction, ROMs) that I want to keep. Last time, my computer broke out of nowhere - and those jackasses at the PC repair shop decided to delete anything remotely related to gayness. Homophobic jackasses.

Er, anyways, back on the topic, I won't be able to get it fixed for quite a while (damn labourday - only idiotic Americans would celebrate work by taking the day off), but I have . . . this little thing to tide me over. Even though my Mom uses it, too - so I can't look at anything risque. At least I can keep up with crap online.

It's sad, really - this $500 laptop is almost better than my thousand dollar PC. It certainly connects at a higher speed, and I can play the Sims on it. My Mom'll problably be addicted soon.

So, yeah - the next ad exec I meet is getting an ass full of shotgun shells due to the stress they've put me through.

In good news - the guy I like is coming over this weekend. *boomchika, boomchika*

So, yeah - the moral of the story is don't shoot off your nose to spite your face unless you have a spare nose lying around.

I'll say what I say to everyone else -- Don't log in as administrator! It's that simple. If you are not running as administrator, then programs you run (and the spyware that those may run) cannot write to *any* directory other than your home directory! And for those programs that need to be administrator switch to being an administrator.

It's slightly more painful at first, especially since many games just assume you are administrator, but you never will have to worry about viruses, spyware, or any of that crap again!
