Time paradox in Maison Ikkoku

Post by Pepperidge »

Did anyone get vol. 6 of the new printing of Maison Ikkoku yet? If so, did you notice that when Godai visits Mitaka's house in Chapter 5, he points out that he has a DVD player?

... if Viz can go back and change this, why is Godai still "Mr. Flunkout"?

I didn't get volume 6 yet... it's in the mail now, I guess I should have it in a few days. (I also ordered volumes 4 and 6 of Nausicaa, but I notice they didn't have volume 5... this is from the official website...)

That's the one thing that bothers me about these reprints, they didn't actually retranslate (or even re-letter) any of the stories that were originally published. Godai is "Mr. Flunk-out" and everyone calls the manager and Godai by their first names. It's really irritating. The translation actually got more accurate about halfway through the original print (Kyoko becomes "Ms. Manager" and Yusaku becomes "Godai"), but I was hoping they'd adjust the dialogue for the first half. C'est la vie.

I don't remember the DVD player line, though... But I do remember Sakamoto's jacket being re-inked with the Ranma logo in the original print...

Good thing they got rid of that, then. Because, you know, that probably would've made me want to buy a Ranma 1/2 jacket too.
