Hopefully the visuals will be cleaned up later in development. Not sure I feel about the John K. levels of stupidity just yet.

I'm excited just to see that they remember Rayman exists. Apparently Ancel has his hands in this one, so I feel okay about it. Heck, I wasn't really stoked about Rayman 3's general tone, but it was still executed pretty well. Fun to play at any rate.

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
My experience with Rayman is limited entirely to Arena (which was quite fun, actually). I thought about getting Rayman 2 for the DS until I heard how sloppy of a conversion it got. I'm really too far removed to know if any of this is congruent with what Rayman is. I gotta respect any game that has the cojones to be hand-drawn in this day and age, though.

The characters aren't usually retarded, but it's been hinted this was intentionally done so they can explain how Rayman became a hero in the first place. The game is supposed to be a prequel, as hinted by its name.
I'm just glad they finally decided to make another Rayman platformer instead of another compilation of mini-games that has nothing to do with the series in the first place.

Am I the only one who thinks it was always blatantly obvious that Rayman is supposed to be a humanoid atom? I loved Rayman 1, hated 2 and 3.

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
Rayman 1 was pretty, but the gameplay was pretty bog standard generic platforming. I was never a big fan. I thought 2 was fabulous, though, and I enjoyed the art direction and environments even though they were a totally different style from the original.
Unfortunately, this game looks like it's shaping up to be another Rayman 3... a gorgeous, lush looking game derailed by a totally charmless and context inappropriate "sense of humour".

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
I'd be willing to accept this and Rayman 3 canonically as when Rayman was younger and less mature. Just chilling with Globox and goofing off until they both grew up sometime before Rayman 2. Though I'm pretty sure 3 was set after 2 so that may not work. Whatever!
Anybody play those portable Rayman games? I heard they were actually really good despite being different from their console counterparts.

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
The Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 is pretty great. It's like a weird mix of the first three games rolled up into one - the gameplay is like the first game, but the music, graphics and characters are borrowed from both Rayman 2 and 3 (the console versions, that is). It even has Razorbeard and his crew along with the Hoodlums. It's not as challenging or as extensive as the first game, but it's a pretty decent alternative.
Rayman Raving Rabbids for the same system is, as opposed to the console versions, a platformer, but a very dull one at that. It's best left alone.

Plus Esrever's comment about the "sense of humour".Zeta wrote:Am I the only one who thinks it was always blatantly obvious that Rayman is supposed to be a humanoid atom? I loved Rayman 1, hated 2 and 3.
I just played both Rayman 2 and 3 for the first time just a couple weeks ago and 2's characters aren't as charming as 1's, whereas 3's general tone is just unbearable. 2 was pretty good but for the time being I can't bring myself to keep playing 3, maybe I'll resume it some other time in order to tell if it's a good game, despite its tone and premise.

Rayman 1 was the reason I ended up buying a PSX, so this trailer really put a smile to my face.
Is it my perverted imagination or that fairy in the beginning ends up loving to get her panties breezed up?

I'm more interested in whether the fairy is Betilla from the first game or not.

Rayman? Everything about him went downhill after the dreamcast game, but I still like the guy, just no more minigames junk, or I will lose my head!

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
Was Rayman 3 really that bad? Having had no experience of it, I thought that the trailer was sort of charming. Not in an intelligent way, but it was colourful and cheesy and infinitely more encouraging than my experience of Raving Rabbids.
And Rayman 2 was great. I liked the first game too, and even the edutainment spinoffs were above average. I'm not quite sure what purpose Globox served and apparently continues to serve, though.

Re: Return of the Heroic Amputee in 2D
I would easily rank Rayman 3 above 2. The levels are more extensive and visually compelling, and there's an ass-load of secrets to find. The world is more surreal and much less grim than in the second game, which I personally think is a good thing. Even the music that goes along with the environments is better. There is also a score system that can become quite interesting if you're into that sort of thing.
Yeah, so Globox, André and (especially) Murfy break the fourth wall a few times, but I don't think it ruins the experience. The light-hearted tone is also better than the moody one from the second game, if you ask me.

Rayman is the boring, mentally dysfunctional offspring of Plok and Dynamite Headdy.

I thought Rayman Origins was E3's Best in Show, personally. This and the new DKC are the only two games that I felt compelled to play immediately. Figures no one here is particularly excited about either game. When did you guys get to be so uncultured?

I don't know, about the same time uncreative tiresome rehashes with the blandest art styles imaginable came back in fashion?
