See... "dark" and "Bugs Bunny".

And you want to give this a chance?

This whole concept sounds like something Sonnikku The Battousai would come up with, honestly. I won't be giving it a chance.

Incidentally, I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the inevitable follow-up, X-Treme Muppets. It'll have Kermit as Killerzz; Ms. Piggy as Poison Deth; Gonzo as G-Gadget and Fonzie as, uh, Freakout Boy.

It's in my nature to give things a chance, no matter how much I find it ridiculous or corny or etc...unless it's something I seriously don't give a rat's ass about.

Seriously, Sands of Time was great. The prince's character design fine. The Voice Actor was fine. The Narrative style was fine. Farrah was fine. The music was fine..But nooooo....

Anyway, this is a great piece of fanart for several reasons. It was drawn by a person named J.B. Warner and you can see it in this post here:

Anyway, Cartoonbrew.com has a clip of the show you can download if you are curious...

You can grab that preview at Aint it Cool News, too... though it doesn't have any animated clips of the actual Loonatics. It does show some of the human characters, though, and they are done in a very realistic-proportioned/vaguely-anime style ala Teen Titans.

The grating thing about Loonatics is the "reimagining." If it had been presented to me as an original show about a team of superhero animals, I don't think my reaction would have been at all hostile. Heck, even if they had just advertised these guys as being the decendents of the original Looney Tunes, it wouldn't have been so bad. The art style really does just look like Batman Beyond with furries, and now that I know they are supposed to be a superhero team, the similar character designs and different signature colours make sense.

But they have made a very concious decision about how they are presenting this to the media. These are the Looney Tunes "reimagined." All these quotes from WB execs are about how kids don't like the old Looney Tunes, and how they will much prefer these "updated" versions. They are being announced as replacements... even though they aren't replacing the originals any more than Looney Tunes Babies did.

It's just such an obvious grab for press. "Warner Bros. replaces Bugs" makes a better headline than "Warner Bros. makes yet another spinoff of Looney Tunes." They are playing up the shock value. And it's working. I mean Jesus, even my Mom had already heard about this when I mentioned it to her. It's all over the news. You can't buy that kind of publicity.

Funny thing is that many of the kids, reporters interviewed in media outlets such as CBS news responded negatively towards these designs. One kid said that Buzz Bunny looked like "an evil Bugs Bunny". I don't get if WB want rejuvinate the Loony Tunes for the new generation, then why don't they release the classic theatrical shorts on a block on Kids WB like ABC's former Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show? Shoot, many of these kids probably haven't viewed these shorts due to their only TV outlet being a cable channel(Boomerang) that is not availble to every service provider.

I was under the impression that these were the descendents of the original. *shurgs*

You're absolutely right, Es, and I don't mind the choice they've made, it's just the product that seems to suck.

That makes it sooooooo much better.

I predict a quick death for this show. And then I will laugh at WB and everyone who watched it.

I just saw the video preview. It's a complete fucking joke.

Oh, andI scanned an article from Metro, a free press publication available on Chiltern Railway trains. I found one on a train home yesterday, saw the "Loonatics" article and I felt like I'd lost a relative or something.

You know, I don't even like Looney Tunes very much and I still find this faintly offensive. It's not that they're 'replacing' my childhood or anything like that, it's just the sheer... idiocy of the whole thing. It's a classic example of marketing completely and utterly failing to grasp the point.
