That's actually why I'm critical of furries. I often get the feeling that they're just making it up so that they can be part of a minority.
Everybody is part of a minority to begin with: It's called being an individual.
Especially the weird ones who talk about furry/otherkin/yiffer's "rights". It's kind of insulting to others with sexual preferences that you can act upon.
I have sexual preferences I can act upon and I'm not insulted.
It may be a little hypocritical, but let me draw you a picture . . .
You can't be "a little hypocritical." It either is a contradiction or it isn't. There is no two ways about it.
You know those white boys from middle-suburbia who come from good homes who like to pretend they're black?
Pretending to be black? That implies that there is some universal definition of what it is to be black. By saying there is you are stereotyping.
How they act like they were raised in the ghetto and and understand how it feels to deal with thousands of years of black opression and slavery? The "wiggers"?
Black kids are just as bad. Even if they do come from a poor, crime-filled neighborhood, they have no fucking clue what it is like to be a slave.
Well, to me it feels like wiggers are to actual blacks as yiffers are to gays. Now do you understand a bit better about where I'm coming from?
Basically you are justifying your minority preference while trying to hammer down someone else's using your own mal-formed logic because you feel "insulted." Now do you understand where extremist Christians are coming from?
It feels like they're sad little people who made up a minority for themselves. And as a part of an actual minority, I find that a wee bit insulting.
What the hell does it mean to be part of a minority anyway? I can make my own minority group right here. I declare that I am a member of the GHZ weapon-philes. I am now a minority. If anyone dares mention that they like Sonic Heroes, I will be offended because God knows we only have so many labels that we can hand out. I mean really? Who are they to not be in the majority anyway? Do they think they are special or something?
Why are you offended? Have they not gone through the same struggle as you? You don't know anything about them. On one hand you bad mouth right wingers and Christians using generalizations about how they suppress the gayes and at the same time you can't even indulge these freaks in their little fetish - which for the record can't possibly harm anyone since all they are doing is RPing and whacking off to pictures.

As far as I'm concerned, if no one is getting hurt, people can do whatever the hell they want. So some furries think they are actually tigers or lions or bears (oh my) in human skin? So what? Believeing that you have a sort of animal spirit isn't even remotely new. So you whack off to pictures of animal people? And? Why is this a problem? Why does it matter? Why is it anyone's business but theirs? Why should anyone care but them?
I'm bisexual. I have to put up with flak from straights and gays. Know why? Because apparently my sexuality is 'trendy'. Because 'so-called bisexual' people are just making it up so they can feel like they're a minority. Gee. Hmm. That sounds an awful lot like
doesn't it?Zeta wrote:It feels like they're sad little people who made up a minority for themselves.
You said at one point, Zeta, that you don't understand gay Republicans (or something to that effect). Know what I don't understand? Close-minded gays. Seems pretty fucking counter-productive, if you ask me.

Oh allright. You guys are right. I've just had a couple of bad experiences with furries in the past. The biggest one was that I had a close friendship with one before I knew of their interests. Then she came out as a wolf or whatever and basically went off the deep end. I'm talking about actually having trouble functioning in everyday society because it sin't "natural" for a "wolf" to hold down a job or live in the city or whatever and started to stop talking to anyone who wasn't into the furry scene.
She basically scared the shit out of me running around acting like animals and I figured that everyone that was into the scene acted like that. I guess not, though - considering that I've never heard of anyone else with that strong of a delusion.
Of course, six months later she declared she was a man.
I think that lasted a month, then she went back to being a female wolf.
Whatever.

Well, I'd say this forum is more prone for that to happen, but I think it would kinda normal to go off topic to that anyway. Considering Sally having "boobs" and walking around with nothing on, and all the letters from angry parents...and beavers.

Yeah. I think the whole deal with Sally is ridiculous when you consider she's about as naked as Sonic is. In SatAM, they never drew her with curves, nor with breast lines. Archie's later artists are to blame for that.
So for those of you Sally haters here who call her a slut for being "naked":

..I rest my case.

Of course, I didn't draw the thing. I saw it and waited for the right time to show it here. The whole message of it is that calling Sally a slut for being naked is pointless. To go in depth, I'll just copy the artist's explanation for the drawing from where I found it:
I'm prolli gonna be crucified and make alot of enemies uploading this--But frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.
The whole "Sally is naked and therefor a slut" statement has been a something that's bothered me forever, and if one jerk can have the gol to upload Sally saying the exact same thing as Sonic here, so can I make my own statement in the same fasion. I will not disclose who this person is, because I don't want to make this a personal fight.
Let me make one thing clear before you start ripping your teeth into me--I do not condemn anyone for hating Sally. If you don't like her, that's fine. I have my own characters that I dislike, even hate, so I won't point a finger at you for doing the same. I will -usually- accept and respect a Sally-hater's opinion. Shoot, some good friends of mine are from that camp.
However, this is one argument that I can not just simply accept. How can Sally be a slut? Seriously? Nothing is showing! Her crotch is drawn just like Sonic's, and her breasts are just circles drawn to her chest--No tits. I don't care how curvy some person at Archie draws her--Unless she's seen with nipples and/or a vagina, she's no different than any other Sonic char.
Unless you also hate Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, etc. for their own nudeness, quit being a hypocrit already and come up with a better reason!
I say this to the entire Sonic community, spanning -all- fandoms, as a whole. If this applies to you, I do not apologize. If it does not apply to you, even if you do hate Sally, then you have no reason to be upset. If it offends you, I do not care.
*steps down from soap box*
I think this is definitly one time my general style really helps to emphasize the point I'm making. Sonic's pose was surprisingly heard to get right... And I ended up drawing his arm too short. I was originally gonna have me poping in the side screaming about my virgin eyes (Har, there's a laugh). But I decided it made the picture too whimsical and stole focous from where I wanted it.
