Yeah, it was especially bad since we even have an emoticon for that.

Thanks for proving my point. My brother walked by and side, "Theres a apostraphe in between eye and s." Then I said "No, there isn`t" Then he said "Yes. there is." so I tried it and guess what I was right.
<pedant>Also, those are backquotes (`), not apostrophes ('). Technically, the keyboard's vertical quote/apostrophe is not the same as the printer's curved quote/apostrophe (U+2019, with U+2018 being the left quote), but the generally accepted ASCII equivalent of a true quote/apostrophe is the vertical one (unless it's a left quote, in which case sometimes a backquote is used instead, though it's probably better to simply use the ordinary quote, seeing as how ` and ' aren't supposed to be symmetric).<pedant>
Where did this emoticon hating come from anyway? I've never really had a problem with them if used in moderation, but suddenly the board seems to be hatin' on them.
By the way, the rolling eyes emote isn't what made me laugh. It was that your sentence has a few spelling errors and the apostrophes are really back quotes, yet you are talking about how your punctuation is good and how you capitalize your letters. Also doing those two things doesn't prove you aren't in elementary school either seeing as how that is where you learn those things.

People here have always frowned on emoticons. The general consesus by many of the GHZ Forum members is that emoticons are used only by people who can't express their feelings in words. I've only used them once or twice on this forum, and regretted it. Now I don't even use them often on boards that don't care if you use them.
Using asterisks is much worse than emoticons. At least with emoticons you actually have to take the effort of either clicking on a button or typing out your emotion through the keyboard.
For those of you who still don't get it, think of it this way - if you were reading a book and suddenly you see " " at the end of a sentence, wouldn't that lower your general opinion of the author and likely even make you want to put the book down? I know this isn't a book we're writing in, but it does make you feel like the writer doesn't know how to express themselves well with the medium.
Why, I think a tool would leave the forum admitting he/ she was inferior in any way to you all, bunch-o-morons.
At least I still have some anonymous balls here with me.
