This topic reminded me of something, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but...

Warning, long post ahead. It's thoughtful, though, so have at it, possums.
Personally, I'm all for it. I'm not just saying this because of the fact that several off my relatives have had dementia and both of my parents have had cancer, I'm just saying it because A.) they're embrionic stem cell, and thus they have no brain, heart, or any other vital organ; B.) whilst in the embrionic stage, and even to a lesser extent when they're foetuses, they are part of the mother's body (I say to a lesser extent because by the time the... entity, for lack of a better term, becomes a foetus, it has developed opperational vital organs); C.) for the most part, they're using embrios slated for destruction because they've gone unused at their fertility clinic (and heck, the South Koreans didn't even use embrios -- they just grew celular tissue from D.N.A. placed in donated ova); and D.) why speak about hypothical persons instead of genuine ones (by what I mean, almost no spermatazoa are ever used in baby making, whether they dodn't reach the ova in time, die unused in the male body, or are simply wanked away. Similarly, almost no ova are ever fertilized, whether because the ova go unfertilized and disposed of during mensturation, or simply wither up in the long period between birth and puberty, which happens to millions of ova in each and every girl/woman on the planet. However, if you're born, you're not a hypothesis; there's no denying you exist).
Also, there is a horrid misconception about stem cell research, which has even worked it's way into Hollywood (read: "The Island"); when scientists talk about stem cells being used to replace damaged/defective body parts, they're not talking about making whole human clones and cutting them up. Instead, they want to take stem cells, put in the D.N.A. needed to make the specific body part, and then just grow, say, an arm or a kidney. Scientists have already successfully created artificial liver, ear, and heart tissues, among others, and the Korean team has gone a long way to making this feasable outside of a laboratory.
I'm also in favor of contraception for both adults and teenagers, as well as a woman's right to choose (except during the third trimester, 'cause that's just gross... by that point, if you don't want the baby, just give him/her up for adoption, as it's already got the required brain activity and heartbeat, after all).
Sorry if I went on too long. To save you all the agravation, I"ll save my witicisms for another post, and keep this from going on any longer. kthnx!!!111!1!!

Personally, I'll like to think that religious fanatics are crank called late at night by Jesus, Abraham, Muhammed, Buddha, or whomever else they want to have imaculate babies with. I can picture it now...Del wrote:Jesus was a myth. OH I WENT THERE.

Fred Phelps: Hello?
Jesus: Is your refrigerator running?
*various angelic giggles*
Phelps: Uh... yeah.
*A loud explosion is heard.*
Jesus: Not anymore, it's not.

And here I thought they were just responsible for Glen Hallitt's "Transformers" stories (an army of Nightbirds? Now there's a retarded and useless plot device if I ever did see one...).[/fanboy rant]Zeta wrote:Stem cells are Super Saiyan levels?
