I thought this was an April Fool's joke...

...until I checked the date.

Admittedly, I do love the LEGO platformer games. A bit (okay, a lot) on the easy side, but the charming parodies of familiar franchises (plus, hey, it's LEGO) won me over.

This...this worries me.

I was going to be sarcastic and rude, but I should just be blunt.

They are applying a popular concept to children/family because that is a huge market.

Oh, I'm fully aware of that. I'm just wondering why so SOON--I mean, with this, the apparently forthcoming Beatles Rock Band, and the X-ty billion different versions of Guitar Hero out there, one might start to wonder how saturated the market can become before something goes horribly wrong.

I'm torn between being interested due to it being LEGO related and to not care at all due to rock music.

Oh, I started to wonder when.

In 2006 before Guitar Hero II came out.

Recall DDR? Rhythm game, popularity exploded, until Konami flooded shelves with 5,000 versions of it and general public got bored? Guitar Hero and Rock Band took that parking space, and they're headed down the same road. It may take longer this time, since it's you know, rock & roll, but gradually they're wearing it thin the same way.

It occured to me recently, that Rock Band prolly will be tougher to kill because it's got a karaoke element. Though, releasing expensive new instrument controllers with most every new version can't be doing it many favors in the long run. (I forget the figure on the complete version of Beatles Rock Band, but IIRC over $200. At least they call it "limited edition" straight up on the box...)

Anyway, there's also the funny absurdity of making what's been called a "family-friendly" version of Rock Band, when it's already proven to be one of the most family friendly things in the biz.

Flash, I meant children.

What I was a kid, I rented stuff like Rugrats, not Internative Infant Simulator Adventure.

a) We had a failure to communicate. As in, did not happen, as in was not talking to you.
b) So sorry for your childhood condition. Being the only one for miles scared to death of the shape of musical instruments musta been brutal.

Well I know you were being general, but I am part of the mindset that understands such concepts as Lego Rockband.

It also has nothing to do with the shape of controllers. Kids simply like legos more because they play with legos more. You act like this is for teenagers.

It's "Lego," not "Legos."

Just… ow. There's no reason for this other than marketing. Knowing that doesn't make my head hurt any less.

The sheer amount of customization that would be possible with this game borders on the ridiculous. My God. It's marketing genius.

I personally can't wait to see the Lego versions of Ozzy Osbourne and Jimmy Hendrix.

# LEGO-themed rock challenges: Play killer riffs to destroy a giant robot, summon a storm, and demolish a skyscraper using the power of rock!
# Enhanced customizer: Don't stop with your avatar, customize your whole entourage! Design the band, roadies, and manager just the way you want.
# Build fame LEGO-style: Collect LEGO bricks after each song to build cooler vehicles and move to new venues.
# LEGO rock den: Buy furniture, decorate the walls and customize your band's hang-out as you climb the ladder to rock success.
Sounds like fun! I only worry about the tween-oriented track list. Anyway, I'm still holding out for LEGO Universe.

Well, regardless of whoever the hell it is that brings it up, there have been a lot of yap about autism in this forum. I have brought it up once, when i tried to get Dasher to come out of the Aspberger closet. He never did, but i am still 99% sure that hes is in it. Being able to spot Aspberger syndrome is a gift God has bestowed upon me, probably as compensation for my obsessive compulsive disorder and king-sized prostate.

Holy crap! When I saw this, I thought "God, is someone late to the joke party", but when I saw the page, I laughed my ass off. Now, if only it would come with pointy guitars made out of legos. There'd be a worse condition than carpal tunnel and thumb blisters once that happens: Lego Hand Gashes.

Not that well August, not that well. But i am confident my Aspberger-detecting power will eventually solve the issue. As of yet i have no clue how exactly, but hey, whats the joy in reading a story that you already know the ending to?

Well anyway, to get back to the topic, i just think its neat that an age-old danish toy franchise that one might have thought would become nothing but a fondly remembered retro-thing in this digital era can still manage to stay relevant. Sure, it only does that by going digital itself, and in the process completely loosing everything that made it original and fun to begin with, and also by leeching on to other more popular franchises, but still...
