What should I toss my money at?

Post by Zeta »

I've got enough cash this month to get a new game - having almost finished VJ. Or at least unlocked Sylvia.

So the ones I'm looking into are:

1) The Sims 2 - I'm still addicted to the first one - with the Hot Date and Livin' Large expansion packs. I'm not sure if my system can handle it - but it might be worth investing in just so I can finally have freaking teenagers and senior-citizens in a game of Sims. Plus, total control of the camera? Rockin'. I'm generally not fond of PC games though, simply because they're apt to go haywire for inexplicable reasons not directly relating to the games themselves.

2) Pikmin 2 - More people need to recognize the savegry and strange humor of Pikmin. Having a bunch of living flower people tear about large animals in a swarm and then bringing their festering carcassas back to be devoured? Priceless. I'm hesitant to buy though, because the first one was such an unappreciated game - it was quickly relegated to the $20 bargan rack. If the same fate occurs to it's sequel, I'll feel silly paying double for it.

3) Pokemon Fire Red - ' Cause I'm a whore for Bulbasaur. And I'm stupid enough to be caught in the jaws of the Pokemon merchandizing beast.

So - yeah, anyone want to suggest one or the other?

And in lighter news:

I'm 20 years old, and I just went on my first ever date last night. I would've gotten a kiss had my mom not interrupted us. No, I don't live with my parents - just down the street. And it's slowly driving me insane.

As a fan of all three franchises, I gotta say Pikmin. I loved the first one, but the thought of playing 2 player is more than enough to seal the deal. Plus, there's no time limit in this one.

I'd go for Pikmin 2, but that's just me.

From these three?
...difficult. If I say Sims 2, I would'nt being honest. Pikmin 2- if you did'nt liked the first one that much, maybe you should consider a rental first. And Pokémon...it's a good catch. You just need to ignore the existence of the anime to play this smart-ass RPG.

Well, if I had to choose just out of those 3, definetly go for Pikmin 2. Though, I get the feeling that that game will be overlooked at retail (just like most of Nintendo's games this season) and get discounted quickly... I bought the first one too when it first came out, and felt like a douche when the price plummeted... Same with Viewtiful Joe and Billy Hatcher... Though in VJ's case, it was worth it, and I'd pay any amount of money for that game.

Though, you might be better off saving your cash, since a parade of good guaranteed games beings in October (GTA San Andreas, Paper Mario) and continues into November (Halo 2, Metroid Prime 2, MGS3 , PoP2, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories)

Oh yeah, and if you're into that sort of thing, Donkey Konga is out in 2 weeks, I think. The American version no longer has the Hikaru Utada song that was in the Japanese version, but I heard it was fun.

I just bought Pikmin 2 myself, so that's what I'd recomend. Nintendo seems to really be putting some muscle behind this one, with the TV advertising and the fact that it actually arrived at my local store on the launch day, which has never happened with any other game I was anticipating, sometimes it's faster to just mail order it and it'll ship from EBgames or something before it shows up around here.. So basically, I don't think the price will drop too quickly, though I think it was worth it if just for the fact that this weekend was pretty shitty for me and having a great new game like that around was just what I needed.

Gradius V is the big one coming up in a couple weeks for me, and Guardian Heroes Advance (though I have a sinking feeling it's going to be awful) as well.

To say nothing of Sly Cooper 2 and *crosses fingers* Fable.

Go for Pokemon Leaf Green (Magmar's in it). The original Gameboy games can be almost torturous to play nowadays, but this update makes it seem brand new, which just goes to show how brilliant the very core of Pokemon's gameplay that has been present since the first iteration is. Of course the true enjoyment of the game is from multiplayer battles, which is why Nintendo HAVE to make an online "Stadium" game.

I'm still pissed off that Game Freak decided to drop the sublime time and day feature for the post-Crystal games though.

What is it with Americans and Sly Cooper? It's entirely, completely average (and inferior to, say, Klonoa 2), and has bad boxart, yet every American I've heard or spoken to about it has loved it.

I LOVED IT.

Actually, I haven't played it yet. But I did buy it. With the original boxart, not that horrible Greatest Hits cover.

Not only does Sly trounce Klonoa (and I really like Klonoa), it's the single best platformer of the past 4 or 5 years. The sneak button is the master stroke. It's simple, seamlessly integrated, and not quite like anything that's ever been done before. In short, it's brilliant. The animation is fluid, the characters are cool, the level design is clever, and it's altogether just a happy package of simple gaming joy. It's a reminder of why I started playing games in the first place. My only major complaint with Sly is that the mini-games detracted too much from the flow and weren't as fun as the main course.

I played the demo of Sly 2, and the Sly parts are excellent (as expected), but I found myself a bit frustrated while playing as Murray (who has officially gone off the deep end). It's a scary thought, but I'm almost afraid it's going to pull a Sonic Adventure 2... the Bentley and Murray games don't seem as unique or fun as Sly's game. Hopefully they'll be integrated well, or you won't have to play as them too often.

Sly Cooper was too damn short.

As for Sly 2 - at the very least, all three characters can seperate and work in concert to accomplish tasks as a team - not neccisarily stuck together (like Sonic Heroes) nor seemingly having unrelated adventures totally seperate from eachother (SA2). So even if Murray and Bentley aren't that fun to play as, you should be able to get some satisfaction from simply having better control over your trio than you had in Heroes or SA2.

I liked Sly, but I certainly wouldn't put it ahead of Klonoa or Rayman 2. It's not a classic, it's just unusually good.

Also, I am not an American.

Damn Canadians and their crappy opinions. This is probably a stupid question, but I'm to lazy to look it up. Was Sly Cooper a PS2 exclusive or was it on the others as well?

What should I toss my money at?
Me.

*T.S.S. leaps upon the nearest table and starts dancing whilst taking his clothes off.*

Hey, I need the cash -- and maybe I can write a bestselling expose about it down the road.

*Goes back to stripping...*

EDIT NUMBER ONE: "The," not "they." Damnable typos.

EDIT NUMBER TWO: Forgot to actually change anything. Oops.

Seriously, good for you! Good luck to the both of you.

And since I'm dirt poor, I have no real idea what those games are like, because I can't afford them. And I do not know which game you should actually buy, as I do not know your tastes/I'm still working upon my telepathy. So until I become rich/get to know you better/can bend spoons with my mind, I can't help you with that. Sorry.

But still, good luck with your boyfriend.

Oh, and "'Cause I'm a whore for Bulbasaur" is a funny phrase. Heh.

Venusaur rhymes with penis whore, that's even better.

You could always try out the Fire Red/Leaf Green ROM, to see if it's any good. Or you could just keep the ROM, so you could buy those other 2 games... Actually you probably did that already.

My vote goes for Pikmin 2. Pikmin is awesome.

Ah, yes -- I concede.

But I still think "Jigglypuff" sounds dirty.

On a more serious note (sort of), did you know that in Saudi Arabia "Pokemon" is banned? The reason, and I'm not making this up, is that the government thinks that "Pikachu" is a subliminal message which really means "Be a Jew." Honest.
