The person who posted that comment was born in 2001. FACT.

Well, it sure doesn't look like that, but if that's the case then I'm relieved.Sam Kennedy wrote:Maegawa wasn't really able talk about the game much (Nintendo's keeping it under wraps), but he did at least clarify that it's not a Wiiware title (it will see a disc-based release), and that the same character designer as the original is working on this sequel.
But... he owns CD and 3&K. He couldn't possibly be serious about that now, could he?Ritz wrote:You should see his profile.

He probably owns them through Gems and Mega Collection, respectively.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
After watching that Wii trailer a few times, I don't feel as enthusiastic as most of you.
The first couple of times I watched it, I felt like it was on par with other footage we've seen of the PS360 version. I was a little turned off by a spot where Sonic slows down a ton and he has next to nothing around him. It didn't seem better or worse (other than graphics of course), just alternative. Then I come here and everyone is pumped. So I watched it again and saw the heavier resemblence to the Rush games, that someone here pointed out, but I still think the next gen version is a hair more appealing (for the better graphics). I'll wait until I hear impressions on both versions when they come out though.

(That was totally supposed to go in the Sonic Unleashed thread. Oops...)

Another trailer with an instrumental version of the theme song.
The song in the trailers reminds me of His World in that the instrumental version sounds awesome yet the version with singing sounds horrible.

Might be the fact you can hear the guitar in this one. The last one practically sounded like nothing but drums and bass.

To me, the song sounds like something that came out of a Genesis Sonic title without the lyrics.Gaz wrote:Another trailer with an instrumental version of the theme song.

I wonder if this game will be on rails or not. Either way, it wouldn't really bother me since I enjoyed Secret Rings, but I'd say not since there will be side scrolling segments ala Sonic Unleashed. The game looks like fun, though. I might give it a chance.

I wish Sonic games were like that without stupid lyrics.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I wish Sonic would stop with all that rock music. Do we really need electric guitars in every single song?
Sonic 06 and it seems Unleashed too seem to be on a good path leading away from that though, fortunately. Maybe not in the style of the old games, but a new one that is a mostly worthy replacement.

God, these games come so thick and fast (lolinnuendo) that I'm not even sure this one really exists. Looks okay, but it's not Sonic Galaxy or anything. Envelopes remain unpushed, etc.
Edited. Okay, just watched the trailer again. The tasty bit with the fields and stuff? Fucking step in the right direction. Hope it plays as good as it looks.

Only if the thing's free-roaming. Running through that vast, open field will be quite underwhelming if your path through it is predetermined.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
It looks like Secret Rings 2 to me (as it was announced). The model looks the same, the ambient seems familiar, so I'd only assume the gameplay is on-rails too.
Not that that's a bad thing, but they did fuck it up to some extent in Secret Rings.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
The main problem with Secret Rings was that you had to play through a mediocre game to EARN a good game . . .

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
Hm, dunno. Apparently, you use the control stick to move, and the wiimote to swing the sword.
If it's still on rails I dunno, but it sounds like it controls like most other Sonic titles, aside from the sword swinging.

Looks quite competent on a technical level, but I'm not a big fan of the art direction. Surprising, since the stages in Secret Rings were almost uniformly gorgeous!

Especially Night Palace. I mean I hate the game, but Night Palace just looked fucking gorgeous.Esrever wrote:Looks quite competent on a technical level, but I'm not a big fan of the art direction. Surprising, since the stages in Secret Rings were almost uniformly gorgeous!
Also wut, on-rails? Ah well, I didn't intend to buy it anyway.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
It wasn't confirmed. It's just glaringly obvious. Although quite frankly, on-rails + traditional controls (i.e., not having to brake to stand still) is a lot closer to actual Sonic 3D gameplay as we know it than most would like to admit.

Re: Sonic and the Quest for Phallic Compensation
I find it strange that the knights are this crazy stylized take on suits of armor and yet the environment is mostly by-the-book medieval castle. The only shot that grabs me is the one with the grass and the stone pillars. Hopefully they'll do like they did with Secret Rings and forget about using the theme in all levels so we get crazy things like skeleton domes and dinos!
