Update is here!

Post by Segaholic2 »

The update is finally finished, after taking longer than expected thanks again to database issues. Fortunately, everything seems to have converted fine and it looks like we're in business in our brand-spanking new phpBB3 forum! Hurrah! You will all now thank me for the ridiculous number of hoops I had to jump through to make this happen.

Anyhow, everything should be working fine, including spoiler tags and I think I set up all the permissions properly. Some features are gone at the moment, such as quick reply, until I can find good mods to add them back in. HTML in posts is disabled and will never be re-enabled, so you'll have to use BBCode only from now on.

It looks like avatars didn't get transferred over properly. My apologies. Please upload a new avatar in the User Control Panel.

If you see anything weird or broken, be sure to let me know right away.

A lot of features I had to mod in to the old forum are now standard in phpBB3, so mess around with the new buttons and update your user profile.

Additionally, user registration is open again so tell your friends and family!

It's a party, so let's get it started! :samba: (0)(0)

Ew at phpBB's tastes for the standard skin, and member profiles on the right. Beyond that, I quite likey.

I missed you guys! It's nice to be back, even though this new setup will probably take some getting used to.

Urgh. You'll be moving the member profiles back to the left side of the page eventually, right?

Just like reading a Japanese novel, you'll eventually get used to it... that is, if you do read Japanese novels.

They're not new. You just needed to click view more smilies.

I see our search feature still sucks. Oh well, nostalgia. Other features are nice though. Will there be rules governing the use of attachments?

Nice to know that the older members still maintain a strict sense of Fascism. I was worried that those mannerisms got left behind.

I can only assume you'll be changing the user info boxes back to the left and changing the font back to Verdana? Those are the only things that really bug me.

I've never been on a forum with attachments before. My first instinct was "hey, I can use this as a free file-sharing server!" and I'm sure 'holic would rather I not edit 3 year old posts to include attachments that I link to from another site. Maybe that should go without saying, but I wanted to bring the feature to our attention.

Nice to see that (mostly) everything came through.

Default phpBB display is fairly obnoxious, but it's a minor issue.

I'm getting this sensation there's too much shit in the screen, too many buttons and gizmos. The simpler format was less, I don't know, irritating?
And I can't wait for those sleek, shaded, three-dimensional Sonic icons we're totally getting in a few days, right?

It didn't really seem cluttered to me, but I'm reading through threads with no clue who posted what just because I'm having a hard time retraining my eyes to look for the name on the right hand side. Pictures make it easier, though. Come on, bitches, reupload those avatars!

Speaking of, those are some sweet-looking arrows. Not gonna lie.

Well, I do like the little bars in the user info that shows if a person is online, but I'm with everyone else in that I don't like that the info is placed on the right side of the post.

That's exactly what I'm gonna say to my ex-girlfriend.

And I just found out after revisiting that RKA thread, the pic is cropped. How much depends on desktop resolution.

Well, the old board was prettier but the new features are very nice. Having the info on the left doesn't really bother me that much; and having my profile come preloaded with "Fancy Rat Shooting" as my interest is more than I could ask for.

Green Gibbon! and I will be working on customizing the theme to make it match the site color scheme and look closer to the old forum.

The new features are all great, and speaking of, one of the new features is custom profile fields. I'm thinking of adding one for "Currently Playing." Any comments or suggestions?

I noticed that when looking at other member's profiles you add them as either friend or foe. A rather odd addition, I can't see it getting much use.

The "Foe" list functions like an ignore list so yes, I think it will get used.

I think the main reasons the forums looks kind of ugly now are:

-Poster Information locations has been switched to the right
-Forum layout is too wide

The forum looks simpler and cleaner than the previous, but that's masked by wider tables because there are no margins on the left and right side. It's almost like reading a large textbook with no columns, and makes the forum look busier than it really is.

I don't know what you're talking about with the wider tables because the cells are definitely padded and the width is determined by your browser window size.

Ah, never mind then. I was simply expecting it to be used as a way to tell someone you hate them. How does the friend function work?
