The next console sonic game should be 2d, I kid you not.

Both, I guess! Gameplay-wise, she plays almost identically to Sonic... she just moves through the levels in a different order. It doesn't really bother me, because the game is fun so it's not like I mind going through those levels a second time. But at the same time, there really is no reason for her to be there... no substantially different moves, no alternate paths, nothing.
Character-wise, she's very important in the "storyline", but the story is kind of rubbish. For example: (Paraphrased)
TAILS: Let's go to my lab Sonic!
SONIC: Ok!
(2 seconds later)
TAILS: Oh no, Sonic! I've just discovered that there is a tear in the SPACE TIME CONTINUUM!
It really makes you wonder what Tails has in his lab that allows him to obtain that kind of information. I also enjoyed the part where Knuckles refers to Blaze as "that feline with attitude." Then he gets angry and punches a rock!

Shadow is a Sonic “cloneâ€￾ and people wined about his levels in SA2 anyway.Zeta wrote:You pretty much play all of Rush as Sonic, as the only difference between the two characters is that one is slower and has flame animations instead of the regular spinning animation.Sonic adventure wasn’t so bad, people whined about it sure, but most of the whining was for the non Sonic levels like fishing. If they took that game as a base for future 3D Sonic games, but focused more on Sonic giving him the 80% of the game, I’m sure they could do something decent. Sonic Rush isn’t so bad, but not because is in 2D, is because you play 50% as Sonic. In the Genesis era, playing with other characters was a extra, playing with Tails in Sonic 2 was kinda a secret. And playing with Knuckles was supposed to be a bonus when you ended the game but they slip it in two and hand to add the everyone goes Super or hyper to compensate.
LISTEN SONIC TEAM, SONIC GAMES ARE ABOUT SONIC! NOT ABOUT THE OTHER CHARACTERS, GIVE US AT LEAST 80% OF SONIC LEVELS DAMN IT!.
So, there is you answer…
Looks like the 80s aren’t as dead as we thought^_-Esrever wrote:Both, I guess! Gameplay-wise, she plays almost identically to Sonic... she just moves through the levels in a different order. this topic has lived longer than I expected, A few people complain that I ignore bad 2d sonic games and good 3d sonic games and that is what drives this topic, that is not quite true. I am one of those who enjoyed sonic heroes and thought Shadow the hedgehog was great. I start these topics because I think that they will start good discussions, which so far they have.

No good post can ever start with the phrase "I had a dream last night", so I waited awhile on this.
I had a dream a couple nights ago, where I was playing the "real" version of Sonic 1, and there was no Scrap Brain. There was some really twisted apocalyptic-looking version of Star Light instead. And it suffered from every thorn in the 3D games' side. Bottomless pits, bad level design, monotonous badniks...
While 3D may bring out the worst in Sonic Team (i.e., it's easier to design a huge bottomless pit that some stretches of land hang over than to actually craft terrain for the whole level), but I don't know if they're in shape to make a 2D game for the console that would be a better than a 3D one. I don't think a bigger screen is going to solve the problems of Advances.
I honestly think the next-gen Sonic will be decent if they just make sure it's not as glitchy; Shadow's main flaw was that it was rushed and a shitload of glitches made it to the market.
(I don't have Rush yet, nor have I played it, so I'm just going to pretend it doesn't exist, like any good debater would.)

In my honest opinion I feel that the use of two screens detracts from the exploration feel of the games. Remember those times when you pushed against walls in the Marble Zone or sank down one of Sandopolis' sand falls to get to something you couldn't see.
What you don't see in Sonic games is half the fun because it makes you think, explore and find shortcuts/big rings/bonus items.
The new games look at the speed side and ignore platforming and detailed exploration apart from finding the keys or whatever for the bonus stages.
Of course, in 3d it's harder because the only way of hiding something is by using a dodgy camera angle which we all hate.

So true..... and this topic lives on like the horror that is Sonic labyrinth.I honestly think the next-gen Sonic will be decent if they just make sure it's not as glitchy; Shadow's main flaw was that it was rushed and a shitload of glitches made it to the market.

I got wiped out by a stray bean sprout
The gun itself was not a bad idea. The lack of any aiming system was. There were a boatload of flaws to accompany, but if Sonic Team actually had their shit together, it could have worked.
P.S. - I just got Light Speed's avatar. I chuckled.
