Now can someone tell me why a character like Shadow, that is supposed to be one of the fastest things alive, would need a god damn motorcycle? That's like wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night.
Sonic is the fastest thing alive, not Shadow. Shadow uses his air-skates to go fast; take them away and he's about as slow as Billy Hatcher. I'm not surprised SEGA added a motorcycle, since they already said Shadow would be riding vehicles on the main site. It does look weird, but at the same time I think the motocycle looks pretty cool, with the GUN logo and all. Shadow looks well-drawn too; they actually managed to make a post-Sonic Adventure character look old-schoolish.
EDIT: I noticed you said "one of the fastest things alive". Meh, he still isn't fast without his shoes, even if he is the ultimate lifeform.
But he still has his air-skates in this game as we seen from videos (and in the picture) so he still has his speed so why does he need to be on a bike? It's just seems like such a pointless gimmick for me.
Personally I can only see this as Sega was of trying to ride on the GTA wave. I mean really..
SONICTEAM had their reasons for the guns, and we all have become more open to the weapon-system than when the game was first announced back in March. The motorcycle might be a pointless gimmick, it might serve a purpose. Right now, it's a gimmick, so I agree you with. Admit it though, the artwork is cool.
I know it sounds cliche but this game is looking a little better now. I don't mind Shadow hopping on a cycle, especially since Sega has given him guns as well, two things he really doesn't need but hey it's different so let's give it a try...maybe they are going for the overkill factor...

I'm not really looking forward to this game, but the art is admittingly pretty cool. And it's pretty clear to me that it isn't official anyway.
Arguing that Shadow doesn't need a bike is pretty weak since Sonic rides bikes and cycles in official artwork and has his own car. As does Metal Sonic for crying out loud.

But they were all stupid in the first place. The entire concept of Sonic Drift was stupid.
I think they are just going for the cool factor for the young peeps who want him to get some street cred. Sort of like Kobe...cept his attempt wasn't that cool
He probably needs a bike so that he can focus on firing shotguns and stuff while moving in a straight line. When he's running, he's got to keep his hands doing that swishy rollerblade thing, and you never know when he might turn or something. Let's keep it really linear, ok?
God, SEGA will do whatever it takes to get make a damn dollar... Take Sonic
Heroes and Sonic Labyrinth to back this theory. I wish somebody would walk
up to Yuji Naka, bitch slap him, then force him to cooperate.

That won't stop me from cringing at that friggin' picture on the first post.
