Virtua Tennis was cool, or at least what little I played of it. It's hard to make a tennis game, I think, and not have it basically amount to vertical Pong with better graphics, but I was compelled to go a few rounds with VT, and I normally don't play sports games at all.

Spartan looks potentially interesting, I like the theme, anyway. It does look an awful lot like Dynasty Warriors, though, and that's another series I think was spent years ago.

It was more "realistic", I suppose. You had to time your hits better otherwise you'd never get any power. And there was the new "slice" hit. Anyways, I enjoy both of them, but Virtua Tennis is probably the better one to play around with friends who don't game well.

Virtua Tennis was awesome. I used to try and play by only watching the VMU screen.

I played a demo of Virtua Tennis that came with the DC magazine, and I tried to baffle people by playing Virtua Tennis with my face in the opposite direction of the television while looking at the VMU screen.

2k2 I found alright,pretty much for the reasons Double-S- stated, it's just Virtua Tennis I didn't like.

Yeah, it rocks. We've got a version coming out for PSP and I'd say it's just about as close gameplay wise to the DC version as you can get. Ace multiplayer.

You don't like the new Zelda!? I can see a score of fanboys gathering in the distance, getting ready to attack if they haven't already done so earlier in this thread...

However, I do agree with you on GT5, the game has become so perfect that the only thing Polyphony can do now to make it better is to add more cars in each race, something that they should have done in the second game instead of increasing the model offerings to such ridiculous (sp?) extremes as the Toyota Puris or the Dhiastau Miget II (if any of you can spell the company name correctly, please let me know)!

Also, you did mention something about the market crashing in a later post, and I have to say that I totally agree with you. I think that the industry's obsession with graphics will be it's ultimate downfall, since they have reached such a level that the stuff was shown for next-gen systems look like they could be done now on this-gen tecnology with a few tack-ons, like what the 32X was, especially in the case of the 360 where the only major improvement is the addition of HD technology, which could be done with the normal X-Box now just by adding an adaptor. A $50 plug-in may not make as much profit as a $300 white box, but at least it wouldn't feel like a cheap excuse to rip off the consumer. Speaking of highway robbery, PS3=$500! The industry is definitely not lasting much longer when it comes to consoles, however, the handheld industry is a completly different story...

Do you mean Daihatsu?

Anyway, there are plenty things they can do to improve GT -- For one, the AI is still pretty retarded, and they'll stick to their racing line even if it means crashing into you or the other AI drivers (of course, this applies to almost every racing game ever). There's also still no real damage modelling, so you can still bounce off barriers and other cars without taking too much of a penalty ( it's even helpful sometimes, especially at that one turn in Laguna Seca)...

Of course, I doubt that Polyphony will make any real improvements along those lines. Considering the useless "features" they added in GT4 (what the fuck was up with that thing that told you what gear you're supposed to be in? If you don't know to downshift during the turns, you shouldn't be playing GT in the first place), GT5's biggest improvement will probably be adjustable side mirrors or something.

The disturbing trend in the industry right now is to make single-player games ridiculously easy with shitty AI, figuring that online play will solve all the problems.

What? Every realistic to semi-realistic racing game I've played in the last several years has had better AI than that. Both Project Gotham 2 and Forza Motorsport have "interactive" AI. Hell, even Sega GT had it. Cut them off and they'll brake or swerve. It's fun to do on turns and totally screw them over. I've always heard that GT's AI was bad, but I didn't know it was that incredible. You'd think what's supposed to be the best simulation game out there (after F355 Challenge) would have smarter opponents.

Doesn't GT still not have online play?

GT is the best simulation of driving, not racing. You get to collect stuff and then, y'know, drive it. Around obstacles that are doing the same thing almost, but not quite, as fast as you.

At least that's always been my impression of it. Which is why can't stand the thing.

I hate the fact it's so popular. It actually makes me angry. Look --> grrr

EDIT: THESE are the people who then don't go and buy OutRun2! Which is actual real-life, proper fun, of all things! Where's the justice?! See, I'm *still* angry!

The thing about graphics is that they have a limit, unlike the game's content and A.I.. the games will keep envolving, but not graphically.

We're not done with graphics until realtime graphics are indistinguishable, which I actually managed to spell correctly the first time, from reality.

And I give that two more generations of consoles (following the batch of PS3, Rev, and 360) - at the most.

HA. Display technology hasn't advanced that far yet. And won't for a good long time. It doesn't matter how good the graphics are, if they can't be displayed at their optimum level. Unless we move to a Matrix-like brain jack by then, it won't be possible to display "life-like" graphics.

Yeah, the AI in GT is that retarded. I thought the AI in Project Gotham Racing 2 wasn't perfect either-- You'll still get rear-ended and forced into a spin if you're in your opponent's line, it just doesn't happen as often as it does in GT. It's just more annoying in PGR2 though, since the game rewards you for flawless driving, and it sucks to lose a clean race or clean section bonus cause some tard AI decided to ram you.

No, it doesn't. Stupid Polyphony. Instead, they gave us a new mode where you can take hi-res screenshots of your car. Woo-hoo :P.

Anyway, you've played Forza? How is it? I'm in the mood for a new racing game, as I'm pretty burnt out on GT and PGR2.

It's called a PIT maneuver. And it seems like that would be an indication of good AI, if the other racers use it to their advantage.
