Please don't give them ideas.

Popcorn wrote: I have three major problems with the concept:

1) Graphically it's very ugly. SA2 looked better than that.
2) It looks achingly similar to Heroes in terms of level design, graphics and so on-- and Heroes was laaaaame. The only apparent difference is this bizarre new gimmick.
3) The whole 'gun' thing is just at total odds with the concept of Sonic, or at least the Sonic we've come to know and mostly love. It's either a cynical (and likely misguided) attempt to cash in on the gangster-culture fad, or an innocent but bewilderingly bad creative decision.
These are basically the same three problems I have. For me, it's not the idea of having weapons that bothers me necessarily -- I think it's possible to make them work with the gameplay. It's just the particular weapons that they have chosen. They don't fit with... with ANYTHING, not the franchise, not the art style, not the age group of the target audience, nothing!

As mentioned before, it doesn't fit with the character, either. Even if Shadow used a fake Egg-gun, it wouldn't fit, or even make sense. The only two characters who could acceptably use (fakish) guns in the Sonic universe would be Eggman and Metal Sonic... or just any of Eggman's robots.

And no, don't say Fang/Nack.

And what about Shooty the Gun? He's probably the most overlooked Sonic character.

Interesting how you know what the level design is like from just 45 secs of footage, which is mainly FMV.

I know it's got elevated runways, grind rails and bottomless pits. Of course there's still a chance that the game is fun to play-- I don't suspect that it'll be much worse than Heroes in terms of mechanics, to be honest-- but that isn't my point. I'm merely expressing my disinterest in what's been shown to me. So far it looks exactly the same as previous games, but with a gun, and until something else surfaces that's what I'm going to expect.

I've got the same set of problems, but the gimmick element is the one that particularly stands out. Sonic in 3D seemed like an experiment with the Adventure games, and I figured for sure with Heroes they would have nailed the appropriate mix of SA1 and SA2 via triangulation (oh, triangle! team system!) for some kind of ideal, but when Heroes is so OFF what anyone (anyone here) wanted it's become apparent that they don't really have a clue. Instead of going back and making a new 3D Sonic concept (which is really what they need), they're trying to make it better by adding a ridiculous "me too" gimmick so (my interpretation) it can be more like Jak and Daxter or Rachet & Clank. The game may not be bad, but there's no evidence of any progress or real improvement being made.

I think we've established that this whole thing is stupid. So hold off on repeated bashing unless something new comes up please.

I heard that Heavy and Bomb are hidden characters. The plot twist at the end is that Shadow is really Sonic's father, brother and uncle thanks to a bizarre accident involving a time machine and a contraceptive device. Eggman turns good, and Shadow and Knuckles have sex in a barn for 20 minutes in the ending credits.

Sorry if I spoiled anything.

Exactly. I don't think there is anything left to say about this atrocious, dreadful, piece of garbage. G.Silver hit it right in the money.

I am not going to spend my money on this thing.

Isn't that what they've tried with the last few Sonic games? *cou-Sonic Heroes-gh*
I think their imagination is broken or something.

At least it's on PS2. That means we can steal it. Though you would have to spend a dollar or so for the blank CD, and I can understand having some kind of principal objection to that.

Sonic Heroes isn't a "new concept." It's a broken version of SA2 with a stupid control gimmick.

If nothing else, this announcement has spawned the most rapidly expanding discussion I think in GHZ forum history.

If we learned anything tonight, it's that friendships are not borne out of mutual interests as much as they are mutual hates.
