The three versions of each character also gives them more breathing room. As you know, Kingdom Hearts has it's own take on Squaresoft and Disney characters. Establishing that there are three version of each character in different worlds has the potential to allow them to include multiple, divergent versions of a character without having to explain why the original Disney/Squaresoft cannon doesn't match up with Kingdom Hearts.
For instance, we know that Mickey is some regular mouse living in Disney's Mousetown or Toontown and having wacky adventures. In Kingdom Hearts, he's a warrior king. This can be resolved by saying that the Mickey from Disney Castle is the Light Mickey, and the Mickey from Mousetown is the Inbetween Mickey.
Similarly, this can be used to their advantage with Squaresoft characters. Cloud has already been featured as a man who sold his soul to a fallen angel, but they could include FF7's Midgar as a seperate world if they simply stated that the one winged angel Cloud is the Dark Cloud from Hollow Bastion - and the Midgar mecenary Cloud is the Inbetween Cloud.
They could use the same reasoning to include Donald the sailing duck as opposed to the wizard. Or Tidus the Blitzball champion and warrior from Zanarkand, as well as Tidus the little kid from the Destiny Islands.
The more and more I think about it, the more and more clever this "Three versions of each character" concept is. It lets them play with cannon characters from two different companies, totally alter them to suit their needs AND include the original versions of the characters as well - if the mood ever struck them.

Some of the members of the Organization sometimes refer to themselves as "nobodies", so I'm not sure what that term refers to anymore.Zeta wrote:Or bi.In-between? Oh, come on, call it neutral
And apparently, I was wrong. Inbetween is the correct term for them.
However, when a "Light" character becomes a heartless - their Inbetween version becomes a "Nobody". Souless zombie bastard with no emotion or past or future. Pretty cool.
I wonder what happens if crap happens to their Dark Side? What if their Dark Side becomes - well, what would be the opposite of a Heartless? Endless? Heartfull? Carebear?
Oh, and speaking of Sigma-- I rented Mega Man X8... It's a substantial improvement over X7, but then again, that's not saying much. The level design and controls are much tighter this time around, though the whole character swapping thing strikes me as a bit pointless. Zero has been made pretty useless in this one-- His saber can no longer reflect attacks, and since Axl can shoot in 8 directions, he's just as good for taking out close range enemies (i.e. short bastards that X can't hit without going to a lower platform or using a charged shot). Voices have improved substantially-- They all sound decent, and the biggest improvement is definetly Axl-- It sounds as though he's finally finished with puberty.
I haven't gotten far enough to know if Sigma is the final boss, and Capcom said he wasn't in it, but there's been a few hints about him here and there, so I'm pretty confident that Sigma is back. Guess some things never change.

The story doesn't get complicated till the second one. The first one is pretty much basic Light vs Dark crap. But it's well-written AND acted Light vs Dark crap.I just started Kingdom Hearts a few days ago, and now I don't know if I want to play it

Zero's actually not that bad. One of the bosses gives you the ability to reflect shots, and he can obtain different weapons that can alter his combat capabilities quite a bit. (The D Glave is probably his best one, as it greatly extends his range.) His double jump is almost necessary in some cases as well.Squirrelknight wrote: Oh, and speaking of Sigma-- I rented Mega Man X8... As for Sigma, well, I can tell you right now he is in the game. (Though I never remember hearing anywhere that Capcom said he WOULDN'T be in it, just that this is supposedly the last time we'll be seeing him.) However. . .

After Sigma beat the crap out of Zero and Dr. Cain took him in, he was kept under close surveillance and coerced into the good God-fearing Maverick Hunter way of thinking. Meanwhile, Sigma went unchecked because, hey, if you can't trust the leader of the Maverick Hunters, who can you trust? Oops.
I imagine Sigma is so good about having the virus because (a) he was a supremely powerful Reploid to begin with, and (b) he's certainly had plenty of time to get used to it.

<SPOILER>The villain/final boss of X8 isn't Sigma. It's the white reploid who stole Tron Bonne's hairstyle, Lumine.</SPOILER>Baba O'Reily wrote:Fuck Sigma, I want a new villain!
Also, Dr. Weil's name is Dr. Bile in the Japanese version, so it's a little more clever there. Who he is exactly remains to be seen. I personally don't think he IS Dr. Wily, but he definately has some connections with him somewhere.
