We are from France . . .

I've been keeping an eye on these two up and coming games, both based on the same premise - which can more or less be boiled down to "Invader Zim: The Video Game".

First of all, Under the Skin is a wackyish, very Japanese action game in which you play Cosmi - an alien prankster come to earth to prove his manhood by causing as much mischief as possible.

In order to do this, you zap the closest human to graft their skin onto your body as a disguise. Your disguise come with some special items such as weapons, animals, and other assorted insane crap that can be used to stir up trouble - thumb tacks, annoying pop music, hit them with cats.

Then you pick an unsuspecting idiot and cause them as much terror and annoyance as possible.

And then you run from the mob. With the crazed group of earlings coming in, you have to make a quick esecape. Stealing somebody else's skin, or use a more combative stance and distract the humans with a rampaging herd of wild elephants or something equally bizarre.

Then there's "Destroy All Humans". A campier and more twisted version of the old alien invasion stories. The plot is that an alien race is running out of fresh genetic material due to too much inbreeding. Thus, most of the population's intelligence has dropped well below the level of "Pro-Wrestling Fan". Your duty is to soften up the human race for a full-scale invasion.

You disguise yourself as a human, abduct cows, use mind-control and try avoid the MiBs and the local wildlife - who can see through your disguise.

It's quite a bit darker than "Under the Skin", and it looks to be longer, too. The weapons you have are generally more "classic" 1950's alien stuff - ray guns, telekinesis. And of course, being able to fly around in your saucer and blow up buildings.

I'm really eager to see how these two games turn out, as it's a pretty original concept, really.

Er . . .I'll take that as enthusiasm.

Additonally, UtS has a special Resident Evil-themed stage called "BioLand". I don't know if you have to scare zombies or what, but it sounds interesting.

A cute aspect of DaH is that you start as a clone - with a number behind it's name - 137. And everytime you die your main character is replaced by yet another clone with a longer number behind it's name - 137, 138, 139 - etc. etc.

I have the Japanese version of Under the Skin (Meiwaku Seijin Panic Maker). It's fun in short bursts, but it's super shallow. Think of it like Crazy Taxi. You start and it's awesome, but fifteen minutes later, you're bored. But then two hours later you feel like playing it again. For fifteen minutes.

There's a versus mode and a co-op mode, but they don't add too much at all. I have a slightly more in-depth review in another thread, "Playsta".
