Wow... I had so many Genesis models... and now I even have a Sega CD and a 32X!
I am really part of this place... well almost... I almost got a Saturn...
And then I have 3 dreamcasts...

Re: What Genesis(es) did you own?
My brother eventually bought a Mega CD, model 2. It came with another Mega Drive compilation, and the only games he bought for it were Road Avenger and WWF Rage in the Cage.Neo wrote:My older brother got a model 1 Mega Drive for Christmas when I was... 3, I think. It came with Sonic 1 and Mega Games 1 (Hang-on, World Championship Soccer and Columns all in one cart). This was essentially my first exposure to video games. Throughout the following year, we fought over it all the time, so for Christmas I was given... a Game Gear. Which then proceeded to eat battery after battery like the disgusting pig it is, prompting its replacement with a model 2 Mega Drive for me and me alone. It came with Sonic 2, and my brother later gave me Sonic 1 to keep.
And I played it until around 1998-1999 when the internet appeared and I learned I'd been playing every game at 5/6 the normal speed. Then I forever turned to emulators, both official and unofficial, leaving it packed away in a corner.
He convinced me to buy Sonic CD instead of Sonic 3, because, just like the back of the box said, it had "over 70 levels". :7 Keep in mind that at this time there was no internet and hardly anyone bought gaming magazines so stuff spread through word of mouth. He explained that Sonic would enter portals and appear in other stages, and the game was almost endless because of that.
I eventually bought Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles later. Came with cleared Sonic save file with all super emeralds (cart was used in a demo booth) so I never had any frustrations over the damned barrel.
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot - I also own something called a "Mega Game II". Exactly like a model 2 Mega Drive, but with a switch in place of the power button.

Re: What Genesis(es) did you own?
I remember being excited when I first got Sonic Adventure because the back of the case said that the game had "nearly 50 MASSIVE LEVELS, bonus rounds, bosses and minigames". The "50 MASSIVE LEVELS" part was highlighted, so I thought there were fifty actual action stages and that I'd be playing the game for years.Neo wrote:He convinced me to buy Sonic CD instead of Sonic 3, because, just like the back of the box said, it had "over 70 levels".

I've got 2 Model 1 Mega Drives and a Model 1 Mega CD.
And a Mega Drive/Master System converter. like to pretend its a 32X.

My dad used to borrow a friend's Model 1 before we got our own Model 2.
I really want that AIWA Genesis boombox, but I imagine it's hella expensive and probably impossible to region-switch.

Re: What Genesis(es) did you own?
I got the model 2 + Sonic 2 bundle for Christmas in 1992 and proceeded to be blown away by the part in Chemical Plant where you move faster than the screen can follow. A Gamegear followed that shortly, and I wanted a Sega CD to play Sonic CD but never got one. Then I was pretty much oblivious to the progression of Sega consoles until the Dreamcast in 1999, having never heard of a 32X until coming here and vaguely remembering hearing about the Saturn and being uninterested because no new Sonic games were mentioned.

Well those would all obviously fit under "other", and in the suggestion thread I even said to specify what model Sega CD, but I realize you're just naming a bunch of obscure shit to show how knowledgeable you are.Green Gibbon! wrote:What about first and second model Sega CD's?

Also, I have the suspicion what model we owned is somehow concurrent to how we ended up the way we are today. Like, who's the guy who voted Nomad? Come on, don't be shy, there's nothing to be afraid of.

Re: What Genesis(es) did you own?
As states before my very first console was a European SEGA Mega Drive II which I received around the age of... 3 perhaps?
Then about a dozen years later I acquired a PAL Mega-CD II which I later had modded to include a Multi-BIOS chip (and which if I recall correctly came with a Mega Drive I I had no need for) while simultaneously purchasing another MDII with included region and 50hz/60hz switches. Later I also bought an American Genesis 32X.

...and I the only person who had a CDX...? o_O
I had a friend who had a Nomad, 'Holic, but I don't think he ever used it as a portable system. Did you like yours? Did it devour batteries like a Game Gear?

PAL models are analagous to NTSC ones, right?
I'm pretty sure the one I owned in my childhood was a model 1. A couple of years ago I got a model 2 (I think) and a Mega CD.
Also Mega Drive was here Genesis is a loser.

Then I guess I am the only one here who got stuck with a master system in a place where everyone else had a Nes...
Now, "back on topic", how did that "Speed up" controler thing for the Genesis worked? Was by using frameskip?

Either that or he lives in a dorm. Or he could have a lot of cash to burn.
So, what games would be especially satisfying to play on the shitter?
