When the well is dry...
It happens at least once in every game. Just when you've busted open the capsule in Mushroom Hill wondering what kind of creative visual gimmicks the next stage is going to utilize: POW. Flying Battery? Just when you've finished helping E-102 blow his way to freedom through Red Mountain: POW. Hot Shelter?
Who comes up with these names and what are they supposed to mean? It's impossible to say. However, one thing that is certain is that for every Lava Reef and Hidden Palace, there's a Scrambled Egg and a Wacky Workbench.
So which is the weirdest Zone title ever? Remember this doesn't concern anything about the actual Zone itself, either its design or visual theme. Just simply: what's the most outrageous fucking name?

They were thinking "Death Star" when they made "Death Egg Zone." Because just about everything that has to do with Eggman has the word 'Egg' in it. So, they thought it'd be cool to make an Eggman version of the Death Star, resulting in "Death Egg"
...Duh.
Now that I think of it, why is Sonic Team is obsessed with eggs? Eggman, Death Egg, Chao Eggs, Giant Egg (Billy Hatcher)...that might've been answered before somewhere, but I haven't seen why.

Gigalopolis Zone = Big Ass City Zone
That's a rough translation, though.
Weapons Bed and Meteor Herd really don't belong up there. They both make perfect sense to me.
But Panic Puppet. There are no puppets. There's no panic. At least all the others make sense in HALF of the name. Panic Puppet has a strike out on both counts.

Oh yeah, the one level whose Special Stage I never completed. I had all the ring locations memorized. So that I could get to the Special Stage. In retrospect I probably should have also memorized the ring locations in the Special Stages since they matter way more.Green Gibbon! wrote:Gigantic Angel was in Sonic Pocket. Definately Green Hills Zone. I imagine the conversation that lead to its naming went something like this:
"We need a new zone name for this Sonic 2 level. You, lowly intern, come up with a good name!"
"Hey, that looks just like Green Hill from Sonic 1."
"No, I want a name that wasn't used before."
"But... it looks exactly the same as Green Hill in Sonic 1..."
"DAMMIT!!! I SAID A NEW NAME!"
"I can't come up with a good name for a design that has the exact same patterned hills as..."
"Prefect! Green Hills Zone it is!"

I don't know, I always thought 'puppet' related to 'robot'. Or something like that.
Also, Meteor Herd makes sense, given the fact that there's a fuckin' herd of meteors just above yonder head. But just what the hell is with Mad Space? They have a level with three distinct planets and they come up with that shitty name?

I always thought at least some of those made sense... Spring Yard's cool 'cause it's a great bit yard with.. loads of springs in it. Flying Battery makes perfect sense-- 'battery' here is used in the military sense. Weapons Bed is another military term referring to a stockpile of weapons/giant weapons yard, which is what that level was.
Scrap Brain makes slightly less sense, but it's only slightly less menacing a name than Genocide.

The Game Gear games had a whole slew of Crazy names.
Turquoise Hill? The level isn't even close to being a light green/blue colour. The sky, maybe, but it's the flippin sky!
Same with Great Turquoise.
Sleeping Egg?
Robotnik Winter? Since when does Eggman get his own Season?
The best level idea in all of the Game Gear games, IMO, was Mecha Green Hill Zone.

I haven't played any of the Sonic GG games, Sonic Pocket Adventure and Sonic Advance 3 so I was going to choose Puppet Panic 'til a couple people mentioned Meta Junglira.
Meta Junglira?
...huh?

I assumed it's called Mad Space because the emerald hints are backwards causing you to go mad trying to find the pieces.aso wrote:Also, Meteor Herd makes sense, given the fact that there's a fuckin' herd of meteors just above yonder head.
