Schoolyard split from the '90s...

There are really only two choices here. I'm pretty sure most of us grew up in the 1990s, and if so you were either a Nintendo kid or a Sega kid. Which were you?
No giving me that "both" bull, because you had to be crazy rich to own both back then! We're talking about in the '90s, not your current realization that both were pretty awesome in their own way.
As for me, it's pretty obvious. Sega all the way. Those Nintendo kids were nerds.

Sega Genesis, mang. It was my first console EVAR and it had Sonic and Sonic ran fast and Sonic had baditude that was good enough for me.

I liked them both, but even in retrospect the Genesis is my favorite for sure. The SNES had the RPGs and other adventure-types, and I think it had the better SF2 port (seems like the Super/Turbo ports were kind of wonky on both systems) and a few good shooters, but having purchased or otherwise heavily-played every game I ever wanted for both platforms, the the Genesis simply has way more games that I enjoyed. If I could only have one it would be the Genesis, I don't even have to think about that question.
In fact, I am probably more biased about it now than I was back then. You didn't have to own both of them either--smart gamers buddied up with the people who owned the other console and got access to their whole library for FREE. I wish I had known someone with a TG16!

Whoever voted for the SNES is a total unconforming smacktard. Genesis wins.

I had both, too, and I don't even remember there being any "console wars" back then. Sure, Nintendo and Sega slung plenty of mud at one another
<img src="

but my fellow consumers and I were perfectly benign on the issue of preference.

Hey, screw you Ritz! :P I grew up with the Nes and therefor there was only one choice for me (or rather my parents wallet). None. Both machines were too damn expensive here in Sweden.
However I rented the snes a couple of times which gave me enough fodder to engage in a real system war. Which never came because I was apparently the only gamer at my school :(. Oh well it's never too late.. you genesis fans are all smoking crack since that is the only way you could make your games fun!!
Let the war begin! Wheee!!

Sega Genesis. I remember playing my first fighting game on there, as well as my first Sonic game, my first RPG (Phantasy Star), and my first time being upset with the 3DO.

I had both consoles as well. Both had their pros and cons, but overall I'd have to say that the Genesis had the better games. That's mostly because I'm a run & gunner freak. I still love the SNES, though. D:

Genesis was sleek and black. Super Nintendo was clunky and purple. Obviously, the Genesis was the Console for the Man's Man.
Also, Genesis was the first system I bought with my own money, so it has that special place in my heart.

Being, as this is, a forum for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog, don't you think this is a rather predecided poll?
Even though the Snes was three billion times better (I had the Scope, so maybe I'm biased).

Actually it did:
And it was even worse than the snes one. I must not be biased after all.

I've still never played on an actual SNES. I don't feel like I missed that much.

Holy crap, I've got that. What was it? The Menacer? Edit: Just noticed the name in the corner.
It came with a cartridge with 6 point and shoot games. One was a TJ&E game.
BTW. Genesis all the way.

I liked the SuperScope quite a bit actually, I even own both versions of Battleclash. :D
When you compare the SuperScope to the Menacer and the SNES Mouse to the "Mega Mouse" along with their accompanying software (Mario Paint SO owns Art Alive!), it's really clear that Nintendo was better at that sort of thing. Considering that neither peripheral got much support it's also pretty clear that it didn't really matter.

Oh, the good times when I hated SEGA but liked Sonic...
I like to consider myself a cured fanboy. I may only buy Nintendo games, but I learned to love Sony. But Microsoft still sucks.

Mega Drive, but it was my brother's choice and I just got dragged along in the raging current of arcade ports and Sonic sequels. However, it's not really much to complain about. I still have my stalwart 16-bit buddy on my gaming desk to this day. A couple of my friends had SNESes (SNESs? SNES's? whatev) so I still got to play a little Mario and Zelda and stuff, but after being brought up on a healthy diet of Sonic I was all "mang watz up wit dis slowass plumber and shit" or something like it.

I almost just exploded with nostalgia remembering the time when Mario Paint and Killer Instinct ruled me. (Especially with GG ridiculing it 'tother day.) That fly swatting game was pure genius and the mario character-head music composition tool! I think I might cry...
Gotta' get that rom now.

I can remember getting the Sonic 2/Genesis pack for Christmas when I was four. That was the first game/game system I ever played, and I don't think I even knew about the SNES until the N64 came out. I definitly didn't own some of the "cooler" Genesis games, but back then all that mattered to me were Power Rangers games.

I believe it was Wacky Worlds that supported the Mega Mouse, not Art Alive. I remember seeing a bunch of left over Mega Mouses at Best Buy and picking up a couple for $0.50. I was disappointed to find out it didn't work with any of the games I had.
Genesis all the way. I had some friends with a SNES, but I always thought of it as just junk back then. Even now, I would rather play some old school Genesis than SNES.
SE~GA!

Bingo! Ah, the good old days of trading consoles for a week or two, it was like some kind of sexy foreign holiday. Do kids even do that any more?
I was a Mega Drive kid, didn't actually own a SNES until years later, and that was mainly just for the Mario games (World, All-Stars, Kart and Yoshi's Island, probably the strongest line-up any video game series/franchise has had on one console).

Sega Genesis was a lot better, but SN had Chrono trigger…
