Mario & Sonic at the London Olympics confirmed

Post by Gaz »

Press release here.

I just knew the rumor that the next Mario & Sonic game wouldn't be Olympic themed was too good to be true. Given the sales for the last few games I can't say I'm at all surprised but will there really be much difference between this and the first Mario & Sonic?

I think the issue is that this is once again, the summer olympics. The second game covered the winter olympics, which offered a completely different set of events than the first game.

But now it's set in foggy old London town! When the games are over, Sonic and Mario can adjourn to the local pub and enjoy a pint of fish and chips.

When I look at this game series I can't help but be dumbfounded. On one hand we have a character whose entire concept is that he can run faster than the speed of sound, can leap about one hundred feet in the air, can punch cars off the road and if he's really feeling it, he can telaport, stop time, move at the speed of light or telaport something else entirely at a whim. And he's competing with what amounts to a street-level meta human in athletic events. Even ignoring story fluff and going only by game mechanics, it only takes one play through Speed Highway to figure out that this game concept is retarded. I'm sorry I just can't get passed that. I know it's not supposed to be taken seriously. But I can't get past it. Fucking PS2.

The UK has such a rich video game history. Seems kinda off that their Olympics event is commemorated with a couple of Japanese characters. We need some Dizzy Egg and Miner Willy all up ins, just to name a few.

I’d only even remotely consider buying it if it has Her Majesty queen Elizabeth II as a hidden character.

Or Margaret Thatcher.

How about King Arthur, since he's a Sonic character, technically, as well?

Sorry. Rare are busy making DLC so you can play as human sized bananas, milk carton, chocolate bar, pizza slize, soda cans, and celery sticks with googly eyes in their Wii Sports Rip off.

chriscaffee I think you are confusing things, Sonic doesn't have a strong psychical strength, just speed, and its just a sports spin-off game, really, who cares?
