Sega Japan's Interview with Sonic the Hedgehog
Sega Japan's Interview with Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic was the mascot for Sega Japan’s recent Cup Boy Football convention, which is the company’s way of giving back to the community by allowing young boys to demonstrate their football skills.
Being a community event, Mr Otayori (who, if you remember, previously interviewed Yuji Uekawa and Photoshoped his head on to an E3 girl in his community section) was present and had an important question to ask Sonic, that was, in his own words, gushing “round and roundâ€￾ in his head. It was a question that was more important than finding out about the true continuity of the Sonic games, the whereabouts of the original animals friends or even why the quality of Sonic games have gradually declined over the years. Mr Otayori used this rare opportunity to ask the legendary hedgehog about… *drumroll* the blood type of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.
The question was actually sent in by two Japanese fans. Sonic greeted Otayori-san in his own unique way ("Hey guy! I am Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!) before answering the question. Unfortunately, his reply doesn’t translate to well, but it seems that the Hedgehog doesn’t actually know his blood-type or that of Tails and Knuckles. He does, however, make a few references to America, “the othersâ€￾ and the Earth, but these translate too badly to be understood. Oh well, it could be worse – Mr Otayori could have just asked Sonic for a picture of Amy for some more cross-gendered Photoshop creativity.
Not one to waste a good opportunity, Mr Otayori also took a few pictures of the event:
^ Doesn’t this picture of Sonic and smiling children just fill you with peace, happiness and joy?
^ Stupid Mr Otayori ignoring the questions I sent in to answer those of some imbecilic fans.
^ Still, at least it makes a change from yet another Puyo Pop story
^ This tournament seems a bit sexist, don’t you think?

[ The #072 ] please teach the type of blood of my sonic.
Is type of blood probably certain to sonic and テイルス and ナックルズ etc.? (Hokkaido ピロミン)
Please be able to do the type of blood of sonic. (Tokyo Kinoshita)
If the う - it is, so you say, the type of blood っ て of sonic you do not know. Just a little it will try inspecting! ...... (1 hour later) the う - it is, it is not somehow announced, we would like to see. A whether type, the う - it is, privately as for sonic, however it does also the air like B type....... It tries hearing to just a little sonic? (Cedar phosphorus)
Type of blood っ て no type kana of sonic? When with it starts thinking, probably is there a type of blood in the first place hedgehog? When, it does perhaps, there is no speed something where also the flow of the blood is enormous? Various doubts in the head round and round....... Holding down the curiosity which is not cut off, resigning, it tried hearing in main person of sonic, is, "type of blood of sonic, teaching! "
The Japanese are fuckin' obsessed with blood type. In every profile of any character the country ever produces, one of the listed categories is inevitably 'blood type' (along with 'height' and 'favourite food'). This does not happen anywhere outside Japan. Sonic was always one of the few exceptions to the phenomenon, so I guess those kids just couldn't stand it anymore.
In that case, it doesn't seem as a trivial question as I originally thought. In fact, I guess it is actually fairly relevant.Popcorn wrote:The Japanese are fuckin' obsessed with blood type. Although, apparently, all the information Mr Otayori posts comes directly from official Sega sources/creators (although he ties into Sega events and characters to make it more interesting), so he still should have asked 'Sonic' something more interesting.
On a slightly related note, hereis an old interview Mr Otayori conducted with Naka-San on the secret of his health (I don't think it has been posted before). ^_^

Re: Sega Japan's Interview with Sonic the Hedgehog
I think most mammals have the same kinds of blood, aren't they doing work with organ transplants out of pigs and stuff. You'd need the same type of blood for that to work, otherwise your immune system would destroy the organ.
Is it just me or does Sonic look like he is pissed and about to bite off that kids head?big_smile wrote:

Japanese blood type explanation. They don't give a source, but it seems plausible enough.
Of course, it has an annoying background, so I'll just quote it here for anyone who's interested.

A Blood
People with A type blood have a deep-rooted strength that helps them stay calm in a crisis when everyone else is panicking. However, they tend to avoid confrontation, and feel very uncomfortable around people. A types are shy and sometimes withdrawn. They seek harmony and are very polite, but all the same feel that they never really fit in with others. A types are very responsible. If there is a job to be done, they prefer to take care of it themselves. These people crave success and are perfectionists. They are also very creative, and the most artistic of all the blood types, most likely because of their sensitivity.
People with type A blood are also likely to be considered classic "type A's": stressed and conscientious. In anime, people like Hotohori are type A's.
B Blood
People with B blood are the most practical of the blood groups. They are specialists in what they do. When they start a project, they spend extra time understanding and trying to follow directions than others might. When they are doing something, all of their attention is focused on it. They tend to stick to a goal and follow it through to the end, even if it seems impossible. They tend to be less than cooperative, as they like to follow their own rules and their own ideas. They are individualists. B type people pay attention to their thoughts a little more than their feelings, and therefore can sometimes seem cold and serious.
People with type B blood are often considered more relaxed, freewheeling, and unconventional than other types, although not necessarily to an unacceptable degree. In anime, people like Miaka, Nuriko, and Tasuki are type B's.
O Blood
O type people are outgoing, energetic and social. They are the most flexible of the blood types. They easily start up projects but often have trouble following through because they give up easily. They are flighty and not too dependable. O types always say what's on their mind, and how they feel. O types value the opinion of others, and like to be in the center of attention. Also, people with O blood are extremely self confident.
Type O, the most "average" blood type, is considered the best type in Japan.
AB Blood
AB type people are unique, and hard to categorize. They can have characteristics on two ends of the spectrum at the same time. For instance they are both shy and outgoing. They easily switch from one opposite to another. AB people are trustworthy and responsible, but can't handle it when too much is asked of them. They don't mind doing favors or helping out, as long as its on their own conditions. People with this blood type are interested in art, and metaphysics.
In Japan, AB is considered the worst blood type. For a while, some companies tried dividing their employees into work groups based on blood type, and no one wanted to work with the AB group. Anime villains are likely to be type AB.
A is most compatible with A and AB
B is most compatible with B and AB
AB is most compatible with AB, B, A and O
O is most compatible with O, and AB
