Post by Segaholic2 »

<A HREF="http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/2444 ... 473.asp</A>

Nothing new except a price and date (and I can't remember if we already knew that or not, so if this is old news, then would some other mod please delete this post):

$19.99 on 11/16/2004. Huzzalelujah!

EDIT: Late, but whatever. From the updated EBGames product info page:
<I>
# Includes seven of the most-loved Sonic games of all time, including: Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball and Dr. Robotnik s Mean Bean Machine, plus three Sonic lock-on games (from Sonic & Knuckles)

# Unlockable SEGA Genesis games include The Ooze, Comix Zone, Flicky, and Ristar

# Six hidden SEGA Game Gear games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Drift, Sonic Labyrinth, Dr. Robotnik s Mean Bean Machine, Sonic Blast

# Re-designed interface and additional all-new bonus materials.
</I>

There you have it.

EDIT AGAIN: So apparently Sonic Mega Collection Plus is now also being <A HREF="http://xbox.ign.com/articles/537/537786p1.html">ported to Xbox</A>. Praise be to... Ah, screw it.

Now here's the question. Did they take the time to hack out a decent Mega CD emulator (which would make it worth the purchase price), or is it the same as the Cube version (in which case it's not worth the waste of money)?

Sega has yet to reveal what new features will be in the plus version.

That's finally disappeared from Sega Japan's release list. I don't believe it's going to happen.

So they didn't even add all the games in Sonic Adventure DX? Sega should just go ahead and call it Sonic Mega Collection, half assed.

The lack of Sonic 2 doesn't affect me in any way... but the lack of Triple Trouble does. What the hell? I'm sure there's plenty of space on the disc for that! Lose Sonic Blast if you must!

Everyone's going to buy it anyway, I mean, if they have a PS2. And what's with that? Why is it only for the PS2?

This news post just made me die inside. Don't suppose 'Sonic CD' could be listed under bonus materials... do you? Of course you don't, it's SEGA!

They should have all of the Sonic Game Gear games at the very least if they're the only games that are being added. This is inexcusable.

And what a sack of crap line-up of Game Gear games they chose. Mean Bean Machine? Why play that when the original 16 bit version is available? G Sonic over Sonic & Tails 2? Sonic Drift over Sonic Drift 2? No love for Tails Adventures?

Ugh.

I wasn't expecting much, but this is still a huge disappointment. Disgusting even. Lazy ass piece of crap. "Plus"?

I like how there is plenty of space on a PS2 disc compared to a GCN disc but they don't bother putting all of the GG games in this collection. :roll: They are also still lazy to bother to create a good Sega CD emulator for Sonic CD--a game that is heavily requested by Sonic fans to be put in a decent Sonic console collection since Sonic Jam.

*sighs heavily and shakes head*

Yuji Naka wasn't allowed to work on it, so he refuses to acknowledge its existence. That still doesn't explain the persistence of Amy though...

Mothersucking crap-ass monkey-licking jerkwads.

Fuck that. Six sonic GG games?! What the fuck is the point on putting them on a SMC sequel if all of them can be accessed in Sonic Adventure DX already?!

Damn them. They should've included Sonic R, Knuckles Chaotix, and Sonic CD before even THINKING of re-releasing the same damn game.

Are they really so lazy that they can't develop an emulator for those games? Aside from Chaotix, they've already been ported the PC - albiet at a very low quality.

Anyways, whatever faith or hope I once had in Sonic Team was crippled by Sonic Heroes, and has been BRUTALLY KILLED AND RAPED by Sonic Mega Collection Plus.

I suspected that the Plus suffix would represent nothing more than the addition of the Game Gear games, but I didn’t think Sonic Team were so lazy that they would only include half of them. I guess, on the ‘plus’ side, we will finally get to see some of the Game Gear manuals that haven’t been scanned yet (unless they pull a ‘SADX’ and leave them out again).

I wonder if a PS2 version of SADX is on the way - the 6 missing GG games may be absent to retain some of SADX’s ‘appeal’.

I bet the additional bonus features will be nothing more than an episode or two of Sonic X (which is probably responsible for consuming all of the disc space).

Anyway without a save mode, this is always going to be a pointless. The people who have the time and patience to beat a game in a single sitting are probably only in a minority and I doubt they include any of the casual gaming audience who appear to be the target audience of this pack. Datel recently released their own Mega Drive emulator, which lets you play every single Mega Drive game on PS2 for the same price as this (Obviously, it requires a little bit more effort to set up and isn’t legal).

Unfortunately, as it conflates Sonic with the appeal of nostalgia and a low a price, SMC+ is destined to for a high and long reign on the charts.

Hell, i wouldn't mind it as such if it allowed you to save your game. Fair enough 10 years ago i had 3 hours to spend playing Sonic and Knuckles to complete it. But now i have a job, college (well i'm on holiday from that), driving to do etc - i don't have time no more!

Maybe he is miffed that Ohshima managed to created argueably a better Sonic game than him.

I love it how this year, we get Puyo Puyo shoved down our throats in the form of multiple Fever ports and two MBM ports--in the same damn collection.

Naka should have just stayed as a programmer. Give Sonic back to Oshima, I say!

Taking into account the likes of Pinobee and Blinx, that really might not be such a good idea.

Naka got more credit than he ever deserved for being the "mastermind" of Sonic, but by the same right he's not single-handedly responsible for the downfall. If I had to choose one man to point a finger at, it'd be Iizuka.
