IGN have updated their
Sonic Rivals gallery with several new images including these items of concept art:
IGN have also released new details about the combat system. Players have access to two key forms of attack:
IGN wrote:The first one lets you jump ahead of characters without harming them. The second lets you slap them, causing them to slowdown and trip. You also get a bunch of power-ups throughout the race. Interestingly, each one does something different depending on your position: second or first.
More information, including character profiles for Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles, can be found at
IGN.

The concept art looks gorgeous. It's too bad the the game looks dull as heck.

That is some lovely concept art. It's a shame that it will probably go to waste.

I don't even think the concept art is good. It's not bad from a strictly technical standpoint, but it's extremely generic and non-Sonicy.

It looks kind of like Rayman art, especially Rayman 2. Not Sonic-like at all.

How is it not Sonic-y? It's has checkered grounds and grass. It's feels more Sonic-y than SA2 and Sonic 2K6 so far.

I like the coloured mushrooms. It's very rare that serene and tranquil settings are used in Sonic levels, which is probably for the best, but they are a nice change of pace and make a wonderful contrast to Sonic himself.

It's just extremely generic. You could drop any furry creature into that sterile scene. I don't even think Rayman would be much at home in there.

I get the Rayman vibe myself. But that's because I think lowly of Rayman.

The only Rayman game I ever bothered to play was the 2nd one, which was probably the best third-party N64 platform I played, along with the two Goemon games. The original Banjo is still my favorite N64 platformer, though.

Whore. Rayman 2 is in my top 10 favorite platformers ever.

It would probably be my favorite platformer ever if it wasn't so damn hard and the music was better.

See, I like that it was hard. But it wasn't so hard that I couldn't beat it.
And I LOVED the music. I even ripped a few of my favorites.

He, don't know about the 2nd, but I simply couldn't beat the original PC Rayman (yeah, with this and Dynamite Headdy I pretty much showed all my lameliness... THAT FUCKING ART WORLD BOSS!!). It also had great music, particularly the cave levels' theme.
As for the art, pretty and utterly generic (even to the point of saying the second one reminds me of the Tales of Phantasia title screen), at least the first "course"; and the gameplay sounds like it only needs the shoulder buttons or two of the action buttons of the PSP, and nothing more. Great.

Beautiful art, lets hope the game is good as well.
