Watch Impress have posted pictures of Mega Drive Play TV. The new 'plug-and-play' TV console features six Mega Drive games,
including
Sonic the Hedgehog and
Flicky, which can be played without the need for game cartridges.

^The packaging features the pop art style that was original used for Japanese Mega Drive software and the Oshima-style Sonic.

^ It even has a mini-Mega Drive II

^The system was on display at
The Japan Toy Association Tokyo toy show

You know, I would never consider buying these 500-in-1 slightly altered NES pirate items, but these Plug-n-Play games of late that are official and have games I actually care about are looking pretty good.
I wonder how much this will cost. If it doesn't come to the U.S., I may import it, depending on the price. It's DAMN sexy.

Is there a place to put other cartridges or does it only have those 6 games? Cause I got my 13 year old genesis sitting right over there ready to play those 6 games and more. This one does look cool though, assuming you can play other games.

Pretty sweet! I wonder if it needs batteries, though.

That'd be awesome if you could remove the contoller and use it like a regular one, heh. That would give it a bit more appeal.

My answer to just about everything that needs to be imported:
eBay.

I never said that it was, I just meant that if it doesn't come to the US, I'd use eBay.

From the pictures there appears to be no cartridge port and it is rare for plug-and-play consoles to allow you to play other games than those built in.

Actualy, the list is:
Sonic
Altered Beast
Golden Axe
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Strange choice for Bean Machine though.

With the whole Genesis era to pick from, and with no way to add other better games, that's a really awful selection. Sonic is the only one of those titles I'd feel even remotely motivated to buy a new console to play instead of just playing it for free via emulation.

No Alex Kidd, WonderBoy In Monster World, or any of the Streets of Rage games?
Weaksauce.

I still don't understand how the 1991 Mega Drive Flicky port ended up being so inferior to the 1984 arcade original.

What the? Mean Bean Machine? They threw in an altered Puyo Puyo over the classic Columns?
Bollocks, I say!

A bit of trivia I only just discovered: Flicky was created by Yoji Ishii.

Programmed by Hideki Ishikawa (H.I), and Shuichi Katagi (KTG).

Character Design Yoshiki Kawasaki (Y.K).
Security by Shuichi Katagi (KTG).
(M.T) ?
The character designer, Yoshiki Kawasaki was also the character designer on Sanrin San-chan/Tricycle San (released in the west as Spatter). The protagonist of which, the flower collecting San, was the inspiration of the Chao's design.
Seeing as the origins of Flicky and Bean the Dynamite got mentions both in their profiles and their debut Sonic games, shouldn't this information be added to the Sonic Adventure page and Chao's profile in the glossary?
Also, E-102 Gamma seems to be based off of the villain robot ED-209 from the original Robocop film, especially in E-102's early designs.

*loves all of the E-100 series*
I'd just like to note that pure Robots beat Cyborgs every day of the week. Robots have none of those gooey vulnerable fleshy parts. Also, they don't think like humans - and they're not filled with angst over the fact that they're half robot/half human. They're just there to do their jobs. Robots win.
Speaking of which - does anyone else find the Teen Titans character "Cyborg" incredibly ironic? "We need a token black guy, but let's cover up all of his skin with cybernetic metal - but to compensate, we'll make him angry and from the ghetto".

Actually, I just recently saw the episode where Cyborg beats this evil robot guy, Atlas. The point was that since he's half human, he can improve the human part of himself, making him stronger. I was thinking that he should just get an upgrade, heh. Besides, you can always upgrade robotics, just like putting more or better DIMMs in a PC, for example.

Yeah, I remember the tricycle Chao thing. I intend to add that, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I think I like the earlier Gamma design (on the left) more than the finished one; he's sort of like a robot Quasimodo. You know, he's got that whole hunchback thing going on, which kind of fits in with his self-doubting... something or other, and... actually, Gamma was more about self-existentialism and stuff, wasn't he?
