This image doesn't make any sense. It's a sunset, but the geography in the background is tinted with blue instead of orange like the rocks and the sea in the farther layer... but the foreground appears to be correctly lit so... ???
Indeed. I hope it's a mock up.

What exactly is "Dimpsy" about this?
It's "dimpsy" because it's that semi-final level from Sonic Advance all over again.

Either that or it's a very short act followed by a piss easy and boring boss that is supposed invoke nostalgia and thus my immediate affection by using a recycled gimmick which I have no choice but to associate with those magically good 16 bit games, with all the feelings of sentiment it brings.
("With a twist"..? I only hope Robotnik grabs his PPK and starts shooting at you while you're avoiding the billy ball or does just about anything that will make this fight just a wee bit more interesting and fresh.)

This whole game is PR garbage. Oh yes, they've listened to the public opinion this time around. The dumbass public wants a retro game instead of our glorious 3D fanwanks - so we are bringing them their stupid new retro game, and it's going to be so goddamn retro it will be like Sonic 1, except more retarded: be sure to make it look like a Master System game in HD. And oh, the games had short boss acts there? That was cool, we gonna nix it. It's not like we have a lot more memory to work it and we could actually make boss acts bigger and into actual levels.

Still not following you. They did that once. You know who else reused that boss? Sonic Team.

Your concerns are certainly valid (I didn't want to see this fucking boss again any more than anybody else), but it looks like you (along with, it seems, a few others) are just looking for things to blame Dimps for because you don't like the Advances and Rush.

They have their recurring faults but this is not one of them. How do you know this was even a Dimps decision? They could have been told to reuse that boss by Sega. I don't know how it tends to go in games specifically, but you'd be amazed how many decisions get made by executives in the creative industries (and I know this from first hand experience). You even said yourself it's "PR garbage". Creative people do not do PR.

And that makes it any more valid? Come on, Sonic Team dropped that reused boss in the middle of a very long and dangerous level, not to mention it's Metal Sonic who's sitting inside in Sky Sanctuary, so there is at least some sort of catch to it.

Dimps is now reusing it for the second time in what appears to be the exact same setup (this boss, 10 seconds into the act).

Not really. I would have flamed anyone who'd come to a decision to be this uninspired with one quarter of this episode's bosses, but you know what my problem is? I can not prove that, because in the past years, all 2D Sonics have been handed out to Dimps - so there is nothing to compare my opinions to. I am not suspicious towards them because they are called Dimps. I am suspicious towards them because of what I am seeing, and how familiar it looks to some of my past experiences with mediocre Sonic Advance line of games.
They have their recurring faults but this is not one of them. How do you know this was even a Dimps decision? They could have been told to reuse that boss by Sega. I don't know how it goes in the world of games, but you'd be amazed how many decisions get made by executives in the creative industries (and I know this from first hand experience).
I do not care. I am a consumer, and am paying for that game. Someone's making it, and if I so not find my purchase gratifying, I will complain against those who take penny and fame for it.
You even said yourself it's "PR garbage". Creative people do not do PR.
Thought had occured to me that these people aren't very creative.

They reused it in the first Sonic game they ever did, and have never done so again until now. Sonic Advance was released 8 years ago! Sure, two times is two too many, but you're treating it like its symptomatic and habitual of Dimps to do this when it clearly isn't (unless they reused tons of bosses in SAdv 2-3 that I don't know about).

Sega's name is much bigger on this thing than Dimps's. Besides, if you start playing the blame game you should be prepared for people to nitpick your accusations.

Maybe there are, indeed, many other hallmarks on the footage so far that liken this to Dimps's earlier work on the Advance/Rush series, and that's fine, but concerning this boss, I fail to see how a single reuse that happened almost a decade ago indicates a habit.

until now
First off, "now" they are supposed to be working on freaking Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Not Sonic On Game Boy Advance, not Sonic on Neo Geo Pocket Color, not Sonic 1 With Worse Visuals. Reusing old bosses, levels and even music I can handle if it's supposed to present Sonic in all his glory on some system other than Mega Drive in a spinoff / best of sort of way ... yet I swear to God if the billiball gadget appeared as a boss at the end of Angel Island I would be out talking shit all over the place about it. Would you?
Besides, if you start playing the blame game you should be prepared for people to nitpick your accusations.
Which is exactly why I happen to be posting this on an open forum, son.

... what I said was it feels "Dimpsy"; "Dimps" is the name of the only professional videogame company that had ever blatantly re-used this particular boss for the second time in the whole history of mankind. I don't know whether it constitutes a habit or not, I don't care; BUT looking at that Sonic 4 boss, it invokes a certain feeling, and I happen to associate that feeling with Sonic Advance's bosses: boredom.

I always thought it would be cool to see this boss revisited, but like some kind of hard-mode nightmare. It spins 360 degrees around the ship, or it's swung around more deliberately, smashing into (and destroying?!) terrain as specific shots are aimed at Sonic. Maybe spikes bust out of it at some point to make it bigger and harder to dodge, and then when you finally hit Robotnik enough times to end the fight, the ball breaks off and rolls after you Indiana Jones style.

*sigh*

God damn it. Dimps made Sonic Pocket Adventure! Arguably the best Sonic game barring the original tri/quadrilogy and Sonic CD! Why do people keep forgetting this?

Actually I'm pretty sure that shots not fake. Also that leaked "alpha build" is the final game. Can't wait!

Why are you assuming that Episode 1 will have only 4 Zones?

I've wanted to see the good old wrecking ball used in a 3D game, smashing the hell out of everything in the surrounding area. I'm not sure much else could be done with it in 2D, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Hmmm... looks like I can continue to assume Sonic 4 will blow the big willy. Not like my overview would change. I've been assuming the games were shit since Sonic 2006. So far I've held a pretty good track record.

Granted, maybe that screen fills with more levels as you access them, and there will in fact be more than 4 levels. (I wouldn't mind it, personally.)
The image is more than likely bogus. Stop getting your fucking panties in a twist and menstruating all over the internet.
What's wrong with putting a little juice into an otherwise dry, trivial and futile topic? Posting sparkly two-liners may be the smart thing to do, but gets boring after a while.

Anyhow, even if the image by chance isn't fake, I do suspect there's going to be a twist or a follow-up to that battle, and it's a teaser of sorts. No-one could be incompetent enough to brings this up as a full-fledged boss in Sonic 4.

...except maybe Dimps <_<
