Maybe all seven Chaos Emeralds can't be in extremely close proximity for extended periods of time without being neutralized by the Master Emerald. Otherwise, they dissipate and recharge in the Special Zone. The Special Zone occasionally has portals to the real world that land them in random places (they are Chaos Emeralds, after all).

I hate to bring the travesty of a game up, but didn't Sonic 06 imply that each Emerald had certain affiliations? For instance, Mephiles uses the purple one for most of his schemes.

You don't mean limited, do you? In SA1 Tails said they have "unlimited power." In SA2, Shadow says they contain "the ultimate power." They've been used for everything from time travel to transformation to raising the dead and the only limit they've ever shown is amplitude (6 of them were taking longer to charge the Eclipse Cannon than Eggman and Shadow felt like waiting).

Two problems. First, the emeralds don't lose their power when they get neutralized; they just get momentarily turned off. Knuckles neutralized them to stop the Ark's overloading core, after which Sonic and Shadow immediately used them to transform. Second, that doesn't explain Sonic 1 because he only had six of them. And why would their close proximity prompt the Master Emerald to banish them to another dimension? Didn't they sit around it on the Chao's altar for who knows how long? And the ret-coned set that used to exist on Angel Island?

It's more likely that Sonic Team's just matching his color scheme. The emeralds have never behaved differently from one another.

I don't understand the purpose of this debate, because it's obvious that after the emeralds are used for anything they immediately split apart, with one going to a tropical beach, another going to ancient ruins, another going to an aerial highway, another going someplace underwater... and so on. The last three divide themselves randomly between active volcanoes, chemical plants, oil fields, frozen icecaps, and/or hills with giant fungi.

I never thought about it until now, but Sonic couldn't transform into Super Sonic in Sonic 1 because he only could get 6 of the chaos emeralds.

You have never played Sonic Adventure 2? Tails and Eggman have both radars for the Chaos Emmeralds (Tails one is like Bulma's Dragon Ball radar and Eggman's one is larger like the one Red Ribbon uses)

And yes, since Sonic 2 I have always related the series to Goku, since you know, in my country Dragon Ball was on TV a lot before the USA and for me collecting 7 powerful objects and transforming to blonde was a Dragon Ball cameo, that's why I am not surprised to see sonic as the werehog.

Actually, it's pretty damn simple to draw parallels between DBZ and Sonic. Sonic is basically "furry DBZ".

Sonic / Super Sonic / Wolf Sonic = Goku / Super Saiyan Goku / Baboon Goku

Tails = Cross between Bulma and Krillin

Knuckles = Yamcha

Amy = Chichi

Shadow /Super Shadow = Vegita / Super Saiyan Vegita

Eggman = Dr. Gero + Pilaf

Silver = Trunks

Chaos Emeralds = Dragon Balls

Rouge, Big, and Blaze are the only current focused on characters I can think of who don't have a DBZ counterpart.

No, this I refuse. You could probably fit characters from any series into DBZ archetypes. The only DBZ parodies here are super sonic, the chaos emeralds, and the 3d special stages. Shadow was not meant to be vegeta, Knuckles was not meant to be yamcha or piccolo, and this new were hog bullshit is not a throw back to the Oozaru transformation.
