I always justified the odd facial movements of SA1 that way.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
On rewatching I think I agree with people's evaluation of the animation. I still can't get used to the voice itself (whatever problems there might have been with the delivery, pretty much any voice Sonic had in previous games just felt basically right to me), but I think it's the floaty gestures, non-specific facial expressions, and mushy lipsync (probably not changed from the japanese) that really make me react badly.
I kinda wish the humour and tone didn't have to be so retarded. I'm aware that this is probably aimed at 10-year olds, but that doesn't mean it has to be quite this lame.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
Sonic's voice sounded odd in that clip but I think it's just a bit jarring hearing him with a deeper voice all of a sudden.
Also, it may not be the version of the game anyone cares about but you can currently download a demo of the DS version of Sonic Colours from the euro Wii Nintendo Channel.

After listening to it a few times, I've decided that its not the pitch or the voice that offends me, It's that Sonic comes off as a complete douche bag. Even tails seems exhausted with having to put up with this jerk.

Yeah, but nobody seems to begrudge Sonic The Comic for doing that. Maybe a combination of the voice and script compounds the problem?

Sonic always seemed to be a bit on the douchey side to me- Waggling his finger, giving unsolicited advice. No wonder Knuckles was so easily convinced he was the enemy!

Hmm...
I do not think the voices are bad at all, it is just this game's plot is stupid.

I think both voices could work in theory, but they're awkward here. Do we know what prompted the change? Also, the foley artist really needs to take the wacky sound effects down a notch or ten.

Douche? I don't know what you guys are talking about. Didn't you hear about how he was trashing robots? Seriously, though, I think that's just the way Sonic is. Not very appealing personality wise.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
This is the worst Sonic voice I've heard out of all the games and shows. If I play this, the voices will have to be in Japanese.
And this is the first time I've liked a Tails voice in a game. Maybe Sega wants us to like the supporting characters more than Sonic so they can pad out play time with different play styles again. Or individual spin-off games! That went so well last time.

Were you expecting maybe William Shakespeare?

There have been better Sonic plots, yes. It's not exactly a scandalous thing to point out.

I just got a pair of headphones and I... I kinda like this. Yeah, Sonic's voice sounds much older than what I expect, but I suppose it'll grow on me. It's not bad, it's just different. And Tails is certainly an improvement.

I've no idea what you guys are smoking. I'd say that was the best Sonic voice I've ever heard. I can see the script being very polarising, but it suits the game a lot better than SA2/Sonic Battle melodrama. It reminded me a lot of the cartoons.
DKC looks pretty sweet, too.

Seriously, maybe we did. You know, by complaining so much about the 4kids cast that Sega felt the need to replace them in order to truly be able to sell this whole "Sonic isn't gonna suck any more balls!"-message.

is the plot really so stupid? It seems fine to me. Sonic tries to lend a hand to small aliens. Whats so stupid about that?

IM JUST GUNNA CALL THEM ALIENS KIDS HUHUHUHUH
My point was that none of this is interesting or funny. Compare it to cutscenes in Sonic Adventure or some media like the Sonic OVA. The latter had shite voice acting (well most people felt so) yet it was still always interesting and got your attention. That was for kids too yet I can still enjoy it; this in comparison is something I would turn off in boredom if I was 10.
The character models/animations also look entirely bland. As people mentioned, this is supposed to be like a cartoon, so why do they stick to generic, realistic animations that are off-sync? I am not expecting it to be overly goofy, but it needs something worth your attention.
Sonic and Tails also look like crap, although that is probably just overall series design at this point. I appreciate that they made Tails' colour not radioactive, glowing piss, but he looks like puddy and is ugly. At least his model was more visually appealing in games like Rush. I would go so far as to say that both Sonic and Tails had better models in Sonic Jam compared to this, as at least they looked like their actual character designs and lacked that artificial 'texture' (simple polygons > blobs of whatever).
Essentially I am saying that stupid, bland dialogue mixed with stupid, bland characters is not appealing.

A Sonic Colors DS demo is up for download in Europe.
Here's a video of the demo

And on that note, the Sonic community being what it is, here's DS Tropical Resort Act 1's music.

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
SO ANYWAY. I played the Sonic Colours DS demo. It's pretty good! It is, as we all assumed, essentially Sonic Rush 3. There have been a few changes to Sonic's action roster:
* Spin jump, spin dash and boost are once again the main attacks.
* R now performs a slide attack whilst you're moving. Doesn't appear to be too useful.
* The aerial and rail tricks have been removed completely, so no button mashing in mid-air and Sonic shouting "WHOA COOL YEAH" every two seconds.
* Sonic now has a homing attack that targets enemies, springs and power-up boxes. Just like Sonic 4, except it actually works.
* Pressing Down + A/B whilst in mid-air performs a stomp attack. Works just like every other platformer stomp attack.
* Boost now works in mid-air too.
The demo has two types of Wisps. The pale blue one appears to just recharge the boost meter a little (destroying enemies has the same effect). The red one turns Sonic into a fire ball and lets you use a Kirby/Samus style infinite jump attack, the longer you hold the button the higher you're boosted. You can also use a particular level gimmick and break certain walls that you can't as regular Sonic.
The level design is promising, with extra routes for both regular Sonic and fireball Sonic. The homing attack works a lot better than Sonic 4 (and doesn't have the annoying sound effect) and generally feels a lot more organic and less forced. The Wisp power-up is completely optional for this stage, although you will miss out on a few alternate paths without it.
Also, the music gets distorted when you're underwater. That was a fun little touch.

Wait, there's no tricks? Huh. Did that mean you used the boost less often?

Re: Super Sonic Galaxy
Sonic has had homing attack since Sonic Advance 2, I thought?
Although I only ever used it on Sonic Rush's last boss because you had to, and that was just for an air boost.
Tricks, as far as I know, have been replaced by wisps.
And one question! How does the seemingly annoying 'THUMP THUMP THUMP' music sound when you use a wisp power? I saw a video of it and it seemed awful. I am hoping it was just the quality of the video since it is one of the worst noises I have ever heard. Only CWC's green mile surpasses it.
