The level-up system was the most retarded thing about the game, hands down. Can't beat it on your first run through the stage, at level 2? Well, we'll send you back to the last checkpoint at level zero. That shit will be a cakewalk, then!

A Sonic Action RPG could work, but first they'd have to get the bare-bones physics right, which ain't happenin'. Sonic Battle seemed like the closest thing to what it should be.

Re: "Sonic Chronicles" trademarked by Sega
What I meant was, just because people didn't like it in Heroes doesn't mean it's a fundimentally flawed concept. They already have character switching to solve area puzzles in Chronicles it seems, using it real time combat wouldn't have been much of a stretch. We're talking overhead combat however without any camera control and with only one character onscreen at once, in a completely different genre from Heroes.FlashTHD wrote:"Weird"?Pull out the optional part and you've got Sonic Heroes alright.James McGeachie wrote:It could've easily been real time action, featuring optional character switching to take advantage of strengths and weaknesses.
There's no reason why an idea shouldn't be used just because the execution of the idea was poor in a previous game. In this it could be as simple as tapping an enemy to spin attack them with Sonic, a quick circle around them with the stylus for a quick whirlwind (again in a different manner from Heroes), that kind of stuff. It would've just made more sense and been more fluid than sticking slow turn based combat into a Sonic title.

So what you are saying is that the game should have a battle system that is a cross between LoZ:Phantom Hourglass and Pokemon Ranger?

I'll be the first to say it, the enemy design is terrible.

The enemies look like rejected Ben 10 characters.

So, it looks like Eggman is going to be a playable character.
So much for that whole "We're making Eggman a credible villain again" crap.

Yeah, I noticed an Eggman usable item or something on the menu in one of the earlier videos. I thought it was already public knowledge.

I never noticed an Eggman icon in the earlier video like you said, but I still called several weeks ago seeing that Bioware is trying to copy note by note ideas that made the Mario RPGs successful.

The problem is back then Bowser partying with Mario was an exception and a novelty. Definately not the case with Sonic and Eggman who might as well fucking get married at this point.

Perhaps it'll work the opposite way than we suppose? Eggman will join Sonic relatively early in the game, but betray everyone later?

The latest issue of PLAY Magazine has a Sonic Chronicles fold-out poster. On the opposite side, there's a map of Green Hill Zone.
There was an ad for it somewhere in the magazine as well.

A similar poster appeared in Nintendo Power. Does the not-map side have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy on a purple-ish cliff looking upward?

The most promising thing about this game is that Penny Arcade, who demand a playable version of a game to be sure it's good before they will advertise it on their site, currently has ads all over the place for Sonic Chronicles. While that's a good sign, I'm pretty pessimistic.

They also drool over anything Bioware touches.Locit wrote:The most promising thing about this game is that Penny Arcade, who demand a playable version of a game to be sure it's good before they will advertise it on their site, currently has ads all over the place for Sonic Chronicles. So much of the artwork looks so nice, yet they've failed to translated most of it into the game (from what I've seen). Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

It featured Sonic Amy and Knuckles running away from a horde of Zoah, with Tails flying behind and looking upward.K2J wrote:A similar poster appeared in Nintendo Power. Does the not-map side have Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy on a purple-ish cliff looking upward?
