This game fails to excite me. It hits all the right marks, but I'm not excited to try it out. Part of that has to do with how much this borrows from Unleashed. Watching these videos, it looks like levels I somehow missed in Unleashed. The level design seems drab through and through. The art style doesn't do much for me. Everything just looks competent...

I think part of the reason I bothered to play Shadow and Unleashed was because I was curious how they would play. Conceptually they were different from what was previously done in Sonic games. In a guilty pleasure kind of way, I feel some of that same curiosity towards Sonic Rivals, Black Knight, and the Riders games, since I've never played any of them. I don't feel that with Colors Wii. I thought that the whisps would be enough to mix it up, but they haven't been.

I have similar feelings towards the DS version. I got my fill of Rush gameplay with the first 2 games. I'm ready to move on to something different.

"Stick with a franchise" != "Obligated to buy every release and feel like shit if you don't, even if you knew you didn't want it"

Neo is exactly right. I can happily claim to be a Sonic fan whilst accepting that any new Sonic game that happens to look terrible, indeed, looks terrible. If you like the looks of it then great, but if you have to lie to/make any dramatic excuses to yourself and others to make you want to buy a game, this probably means one of two things: You are either too young/stupid to be posting at this board trying to convince people otherwise (aka fanboys), or you need to chill out and/or get a grip.

Oh and for the record, I have yet to watch second one of any Sonic Colors footage. I have no clue how the game is. I'm speaking on general principle.

Am I the only one who can't see those segments as more than just pretty Tiger LCDs?
You're not, that's pretty much correct. The move had no use in anything but those sections, and same went for the drift; it was as if they were at a loss to come up with anything else. Story of much of the game for that matter.

Oh my god, you guys, I think I figured it out! Conspicuously Nintendo-only addition to the main franchise. Sonic Adventure being re-released on PSN and XBLA. Sonic's 20th anniversary next year. Crush 40 about to work on a new game soundtrack.

They're going to make Sonic Adventure 3, aren't they?
Earlier the president of 'SEGA West' (Europe) said there was heavy interest in the development Sonic Heroes 2.

Although I have also seen them say they want to remake the Advance series, Sonic 2, and do another Werehog game, so who really knows!

And just on a side note. When a site like 'Gay Gamers' says something is really, really good - they also think that analingus is really, really good.

Here's the tricky thing : the game looks genuinely good to a number of people here. We aren't making excuses. We're not forcing anything upon ourselves and there are no obligations involved. The conflict stems from the fact that so many people are reacting positively to gameplay decisions that you yourself for whatever reason have decided to hate. Alternatively, we who are genuinely surprised/delighted with what we've seen so far are obviously going to be resistant to the idea that we are somehow forcing ourselves to be satisfied. We're not. So get off your high horse.

What the hell? Is this some kind of moral high ground? Go watch the goddamn footage before barging in here with this shit.

Analingus is gender neutral so I'm not sure what kind of angle you're playing here.

I'm speaking about specific people who do appear to be forcing themselves. Did you not catch the "If you like the looks of it then great"?

What the fuck is up with you people wildly misinterpreting what I've written. "Stick with a franchise" = "Trudging around Sonic message boards and actively monitoring and evaluating the latest installments of said franchise when you know it'll never meet your expectations ever again." Silly idiot man, haven't you been around long enough to know that I regard Sonic with as much contempt as the rest of us?

My problem here is that expectations for Sonic seem to have risen dramatically at a rate inversely proportional to the quality of the series as time has progressed, which honestly defies all logic to me. Why is it that pinball physics are a prerequisite now when it wasn't a problem 10 years ago? What I'm seeing here are people setting insurmountable hurdles for themselves, which is not only rather patently unfair, but a complete waste of time to boot. Stop wasting time!

Man, I can't tell if I'm making any sense at all, partly because it's 3AM, though mostly because I'm absolutely flabbergasted that I'm even being put on trial here as if I'm some sort of child who habitually laps up anything the series puts out. Feel free to misinterpret me again, though!

It has Sonic CD music, you know!

Also, just as a general statement/block of text, I think people are taking this thread a bit too seriously. While I cannot speak for all ya alls ('all of you' for those not fluid in Ebonics), I doubt the people complaining really have a deep hatred for Sonic Colours. When I say it looks bad I simply mean it is not what I want to spend my money on when an excess of new games that are similar to Sonic and retro games in general exist now, as well as me just not caring enough to buy things unless I have a direct interest in them. But with that said, I would still probably get this in the future if I saw it at a very low price or used; it is just alternatives exist that are better, so why waste time with this? I have long since abandoned wanting Sonic games just to see cartoon characters I like doing whatever. I assume a lot of people feel the same.

Also sorry if I am not Jerry Seinfeld! What's the deal with airplane food, anyway?

You fucked up the most basic of jokes, but thanks for the rationale. I knew you could do it, kid!

I'm definitely going to buy it, and I can't change the mind of those who won't (see my earlier comments). I think what's getting people's hackles up now is Flash having not seen the footage yet waxing lyrical about fans lapping up any old shit, when this shit looks to be a rather nice shade of brown. That's me being diplomatic, and also mixing a rather crap metaphor. And puns, as well! Gosh, it's all going on in my post today.

The point being raised is that Sonic Team have made, or had their name on, a few substandard games (and a couple of outright shit ones) in the last few years, but then they show something that looks genuinely fun, charming and polished to all hell, and yet there's still that quiet little contingent bleating the overwhelming response of "pfft, they'll have to do better than that". Didn't you guys ever get told to clean your plate, or did you just feed the vegetables to the dog and eat two helpings of dessert? Just wondering if there's a correlation.

I'm with Ritz on the pinball physics thing. Nobody noticed (or mentioned it at least) until the words 'Sonic the Hedgehog 4' were uttered. Now suddenly everyone's an expert. "I have seen a video and Sonic's knees do not bend properly!". It just strikes me as that classic 'fourquel' problem. You make a trilogy, brilliant. You try and 'recapture the magic' - which is always a bad idea - with another addition to the franchise slightly too late and you're a prick, gtfo, raping my childhood, and so on. I dunno about you guys, but I didn't spend the last fifteen years fantasising about the sequel to Sonic 3. I went to college, slept with girls, took drugs, etc. Not the whole time, obviously, or I'd be exhausted.

But that's another story, for another thread.

Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Pocket Adventure, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Advance 3, and if you forgive their slidy control then also Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog are not classic games but all had an okay if not pretty good engine. Coincidentally enough, I like these games (with the exception of Advance 3 and Heroes, which have too many other design flaws for me to ignore).

So yes, Sonic's knees do not bend properly in Sonic Colors. And in Sonic 4. And in Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, Unleashed. This does not mean that I'm a nitpicker, only that I have some semblance of self-respect left. You prostitutes.

You admit to liking shadow the hedgehog and at the same time criticize the standards of others. Something is wrong with this picture.
