New Sonic Riders video here. It's the PS2 version of the game and it's in French. Shows 2 single player races and a 2 player race being played.
EDIT: IGN have posted a new preview as well now along with a new trailer. The latest trailer shows a mix of gameplay and CG cutscenes.

Well, it's not like we have gas pedals for skateboards. But they do just roll forward automatically. The controls are still tight. Much better than Sonic R.

Like a sex machine! Get on up!
A racing game with no acceleration button may seem a little unorthodox, but I fail to see how it's a shortcoming. In every single racing game I've played, everyone just holds down the accelerate button and doesn't let go. Maybe braking for turns/traps, but that's braking and it's different. Now, anyone can hold down a button for the duration of the race. What makes racing games interesting are what else you can do to either boost your own speed or slow other racers down. Since Sonic Riders has a turbulence system that's built up on tricks, it would seem tricks are necessary to win. And I'm going to guess right now that tricks are better without your thumb planted in the same place for an entire level.
Plus I'd have to agree with OCB. Mario Kart has an accelerate button because cars have pedals. Boards don't.

Unless you're playing, you know, an actual racing game. Where holding down the accelerate button for the duration of the race would result in a whole lot of time flying off turns and planting into a wall.DackAttac wrote:In every single racing game I've played, everyone just holds down the accelerate button and doesn't let go. I agree with S, racing is all about technique. the acceleration button can make or break a race much more than a turbulence (sp?) move could.
Oh, and here's what I think the roster should look like:
Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Jet
Wave
Storm
NiGHTS
Rouge
Robotnik (no "Eggman" bullshit, we've had this conv. before)
Tiara (that's right, I think it would give us a break from Amy for awhile)
Nack/Fang
Tails Doll
Nekkid Boobies
Ray
Cream
Blaze (her character type would fit this game well)
and of course... Speedy da Radhog
What!? You want Shadow? He's too busy being emo to race, sorry!

Sadly not the case. It seems you have no brakes in this game. But the controls are tight enough, so you don't really need them.Dash wrote:I'm going to guess that you hold the control stick back to stop/slow down if need be, but that's only cause I'm thinking logically.
*shrug* It works well in the Tony Hawk games.
